Enid

Dh was talking about Enid last night.
It was very high on the list for dd and ds, but i had completely forgotten about it.
It seems to fit the plain, simple elegantness of the Jean and Mary type names.
I might be loving it again.
What do you think?
It may come back into style with all the 'E' names about at the moment (Ella, Ellie, Elsie), and I must say I could never use a name that is as popular as Ellie

It's the name of my play school teacher, I like it.

I love Enid and Ethel - people won't make weird associations once the name refers to your baby, and not to an old lady. I think they're elegant, and they're nice because they're not too fashionable but they're not wacky either (that's just my taste, obviously, but I think that's a nice balance to strike).

I know a four-year-old Mabel and it's lovely on her.

Nora is a nice old name. So is Maggie.

I agree Ethel is lovely - this is also on our list. Ethel has the plus of Ettie/Etta as a nn which is sweet!

We actually like Mildred too and think Dilly is a nice nn for it.

I may post a long list if I am brave enough!
Maggie is cute, but dh hates Thatcher so that is out, which means no Peggy either.
Nora is cute too, my son goes to school with one so that is out for us,
Mabel - I dont know - for some reason I do not like it, but I am not really to sure why.

jellybeans - I just do not believe children get teased because of there names, sorry! Other things, yes - but not names! Anyway - kids have nothing to associate Enid/Ethel/Mildred with. It is just a name they have not heard before - along woth loads of others. We have a very big mixof names at my dc's schools anyway so I am confident we will be fine!

What about Edith? I know a baby Edith!

Or Enif? I know an Enif. I think it's French.

it's a snippy-sounding little name, quite horrible imo.

I think these threads are rather pointless, as names are very individual, and you will get such a wide array of opinions when you start a thread like this.

Wanted to bring some positivity to this thread as I think Enid is a fab name!

I think it is a bit "kooky" rather than old lady. I think of the girl in Ghost World.

I like it. Its sweet.
