Arya
Auden
Isla

I know Isla is probably going to get the most votes as it's the most common, but are the other two horrible or nice sounding?

I like Aude but Auden is a surname only to me. Arya I don't really like and Isla is okay but I think could be a bit fashionable as opposed to common iyswim.

Avocadoes · 12/06/2010 23:51

Are they pronouned "r-ya" and "or-din"? If so I am not keen.

LaDiDaDi · 12/06/2010 23:51

Don't like Arya.

The sound of Auden makes me think "ordinary" when I hear it, even though it's clearly not an ordinary name iyswim.

Isla is ok, too fashionable for me.

LaDiDaDi · 12/06/2010 23:52

Lol at cross posts of v.similar comments!

coffeefestival · 12/06/2010 23:52

Arya sounds too much like Aryan (as in race). Not keen on Auden as it's a surname. Isla is OK although I prefer Iona.

janeite · 12/06/2010 23:58

Don't 'get' Auden at all. I think it is horrible as a girls' name, sorry.

Don't like Arya either.

coffeefestival · 13/06/2010 00:15

Arianna
Amber
Amelia
Amira
Aurelia
Arwen
Anya
Anna
Eden
Evelyn
Ianthe
Isabella
Ivy
Tali a
Thea

thumbwitch · 13/06/2010 00:18

Auden as a girl's name? No. Maybe Eden? Awen?
Arya - not very keen - prefer Anya or Alia - Arya sounds too close to "Aryan" with all its implications.
Isla - nice name

Starberries · 13/06/2010 03:09

Arya isn't pronounce air-ee-a, it's AWR-ee-a, like Aria but without the musical/pushchair connotation of that spelling.

Auden we liked as a literary nod and we just like the feel of it.

Coffee The only one of those I like is Ivy. Not sure how DP would feel about that. I used to like Eden but not anymore, DP wouldn't agree to any others.

I think Auden's beautiful and have been thinking of it as a boy's name.

What about Arwen for a girl? x

ShrimpOnTheBarbie · 13/06/2010 06:20

I would think Auden was a boy's name, too. Like it for a boy.

Isla is my favourite of the three for a girl.

nooka · 13/06/2010 06:22

Arya makes me think of Fantasy novels (there is an Arya in one of my favourite books - in fact she is one of my favourite characters, but I wouldn't personally use a fantasy name on a real child). I have always pronounced int in my head as Ar-i-ya. I think that you/she might well have pronunciation issues.

Auden sounds more appropriate for a boy, but I'm not keen on surnames for first names.

Isla doesn't seem to be very similar to your other choices. I have no particular opinion on it.

CakeandRoses · 13/06/2010 09:20

Arya is my favourite but prefer Aria spelling. You'll have pronunciation issues for definite but people do with my name and it's not that much of a pain, you only need to correct them once.

Auden sounds more like a boy's name and a bit American/surnamey for my liking.

Isla is fine but quite 'normal' compared to your other two.

Isla.

Avocadoes · 13/06/2010 12:45

Aria is nicer than Arya which I am sure people will pronounce "Ar-ya". And the Ar-ya promounciation is horrible. I like Ariana which someone else suggested. A lovely Italian/Greek name.

I agree with others than Auden sounds masculine. I also I think it sounds pretentious.

Isla is nice. If you want something more unusual what about Isis or Ayla?

janeite · 13/06/2010 12:48

There are loads of pretty girls' names with nods to literature.

I love Ariadne - it's a beautiful name.
And Ariana too.

Shaz10 · 13/06/2010 15:31

Isla is getting the most votes because it's the nicest.

bigstripeytiger · 13/06/2010 15:34

From the first list I prefer Isla.

Ariadne, Anya, Ianthe and Talia are great from coffee's list

aspiegal · 13/06/2010 18:09

Depends on pronunciation for me
Arya is lovely if pronounced 'are-ee-a'
If it is 'air-ee-a' then no as I think it does sound a bit like Aryan (as in race)!
Auden, if pronounced 'aw-den' I like a lot.
Isla is nice.
You have good taste in names I think

Jamieandhismagictorch · 13/06/2010 18:32

The only one I like is Isla

Auden is not at all feminine-sounding.

Arwen is nice

ticktockclock · 13/06/2010 18:34

My DD's second name is Aria so yes I like very much and Isla was also a strong contender for her name so also a big yes!

Magalyxyz · 13/06/2010 18:37

Isla or Auden in that order. The other one? I can't remember it. Forgotten it already.
