My friends have girls called Cadi, Peri, Mali. Any suggestions for similar sounding ones? I do like Medi (we are planning on TTC no.3 Christmas time, so if succesful first go, would be appropriate ). Of course, no saying we'll have a girl and it's a while away yet, so I am planning ahead somewhat!

sorry, I should have said, I really like these names, it's not that I feel I have to have something similar!

Sali
Mari (not sure this is Welsh actually, but fits the bill)

Medi is nice

Others at random:
Gwenno
Nest
Llinos
Taryn
Esyllt (I love this one, probably not your brief though!)

ReshapeWhileDamp · 11/06/2010 21:51

I like Mairi.

katechristie · 11/06/2010 21:58

ooh, I do like Taryn, never heard of that. One of my friend's is Mari, so would avoid (again, another one I like!) but hadn't thought of Mairi.

We have loads of Nia, Carys, Cerys, Eleri, Elin, Alys, Ceri here, and DD is in the top 5 welsh girl's names, but that's because she's named after my best friend.

Had never heard of Esyllt, will sound that one out on DH.

Mabli

ILoveDolly · 11/06/2010 22:04

I know someone with a little girl called Enfys which I always thought was so pretty. (Although I don't know if it sounds a bit fey to a welsh speaker, not being one myself).

Lionstar · 11/06/2010 22:04

OK, on a roll here:

Tyrion
Eluned
Gwawr
Lowri
Anwen
Llywella
Delyth
Eira
Enfys
Meredydd

(thinking back to my class at school)

katechristie · 11/06/2010 22:07

I like Tyrion, and Eira a possibility if a winter baby, but I don't think I could go for it if summer. I like Mabli. There are so many pretty welsh girls names I've never heard of!

SNAP! ILoveDolly. I love it that some of the most lovely Welsh names are nature names, but are not considered hippy like the english equivalents are. I mean 'Rainbow' would not be a common suggestion on MN otherwise. Or 'Snow' (Eira)

katechristie · 11/06/2010 22:28

ooh, I just remembered a girl I knew called Tanys, I always like that name - Enfys reminded me of it!

Tyrion is usually spelt Tirion. DD's best friends are called Tirion and Seren (she is called Carys Angharad).

I like Manon, DS2 would have been called that if he was girl.

helyg · 12/06/2010 11:36

Oh, and from Lionstar's list Delyth is long due a revival

katechristie · 12/06/2010 18:26

ooh, some more to consider.
I do like Seren, I like Medi Seren, DH has been mulling it over for a week and not sure yet.

ILoveDolly · 12/06/2010 22:43

seren is nice - it's 'star' isn't it?

DuelingFanjo · 12/06/2010 22:46

Iona.

As in Yon-ah

nobodysmama · 12/06/2010 22:46

I like Glesni - I'm not a Welsh speaker but I think it means 'blue'. Don't think anyone has mentioned it yet so thought I'd throw it in there!

SixtyFootDoll · 12/06/2010 22:47

Eirlys - which means snow drop
Pronounced ' air-liss'

clemettethecoalitionbreaker · 12/06/2010 22:48

DD has a friend called Merewyn. I always thought that was very pretty.

DuelingFanjo · 12/06/2010 22:54

Never heard of Merewyn, is it spelt that way?

I know the name Meirwen

clemettethecoalitionbreaker · 12/06/2010 23:01

It is spelt that way. I assumed it was Welsh as her parents are Welsh.
