disappointed to not get to use a name?

Just that really - has anyone else had a name they loved and not had a chance to use it and been disappointed?

We had names we really liked for our 2nd child - had a girl and was mildly disappointed that I didn't get to use my boy's name because I loved it so much.

Now pregnant again - with twins. Had 2 boys names chosen (one of which was our name from last time) and absolutely LOVE them both. Had chosen 2 girls names too - Love one of them, like the other. Just found out we're having 2 girls and again I'm realy disappointed we won't get our little or - esp as I know we definitely won't be having any more!

(By the way - before I get a backlash - I'm not disappointed at all about having girls - just that I won't get to use my names!)

Anyone else felt like that about a name?

do what i did....get a cat.

Yes. There are loads of girls' names dh and I love - we have 2 boys and really struggled to find 2 names for them which we both like.

Only reason I ever would have wanted a girl though. Very happy with my boys.

I love the name Carmen for a girl but won't get to use it as having a boy (and this one's definitely the last!)

Gosh yes, I'm sad I will never have a Martha! I have no desire to have a girl, just to use the name.

I have bought a teddy bear for dc3 today for this reason- as i am having a girl, so will call the bear Ike (nn for Isaac), which was our only choice for a boy. >

I absolutely love the name we have picked for a girl though.

Sugarmuppet · 09/06/2010 16:57

we did this too...went to the build a bear workshop so got a birth certificate with our chosen name....on hindsight how sad!!!!

BlueChampagne · 09/06/2010 16:58

Yes - had a lovely girl's name and 2 (super) boys. I have passed the suggestion on to my sister. Otherwise might follow cheesesarnie's suggestion and use it for a future pet.

Sugarmuppet- glad i am not the only one!!

Sugarmuppet · 09/06/2010 17:29

only now that the horrifc pregnancy and birth are a distant memory, i think its about time trying for the name we never had...dh is a bit "g will get confused having a brother the same name as her bear" ??!!

DomesticG0ddess · 09/06/2010 17:29

Totally, am really happy to be having another boy (found out on Monday), but gutted not to be able to use the lovely girl's name I had thought of. Plus finding it harder to think of boys names.

PixieCake · 09/06/2010 18:12

Agree with cheesesarnie - get the boys names out of your system by using them on pets. I know it's not the same though.

Also, don't tell all your friends what your boys names were or they might nick them for their own children and that might make you feel even more disappointed.

GladioliBuckets · 09/06/2010 18:38

That's my only reason for wishing I had more girls!
We have now used up the only boys' names we could ever agree on so would be totally screwed if we had another. Although I can see in the future only one set of teenage female hormones will be a good thing.

chipmonkey · 09/06/2010 18:59

Yes, had loads of lovely girls names and have four boys. Also, most of "my" girls names have been used already by various relatives so even if I did have a dd ( not likely!) I still probably wouldn't use them.

2plus2more · 09/06/2010 21:02

I'm so glad I'm not the only one - although I don't think I'd ever go as far as buying a teddy or pet to use the name! No offence to those that have - I just think it would feel a bit strange because I have always pictured the name with a CHILD! I agree that I wouldn't be telling anyone else what the names were though because I love them so much if I can't have them I certainly don't want anyone else to have them!!! (I guess it helps that they are pretty unusual names so I can't imagine anyone else I know choosing them anyway)
