I have just read on another thread that this name is considered "chavvy".

Now, I'm not a categoriser, but wondered what other people's perception of the name is.

Thanks.

Unless it's Prudence, Henrietta or Beatrice, it'll be chavvy according to MN

Shaz10 · 08/06/2010 22:51

I think that was my fault, but I've been misunderstood. I said that there was a chav on Big Brother called Saskia. And suddenly everyone said that we were calling the name chavvy.

MagalyZz · 08/06/2010 22:53

I don't think it is considered Chavvy I think one poster took a dislike to a poster who has a child called Saskia, and defended the name when it was slagged off. That poster went a bit bananas and said loads of weird stuff, took some really offensive name-changed, exploded, disappeared....

I think it's lovely. I've only known two (both Dutch) - one of them frighteningly posh.

n.b., I've worked & lived in The Netherlands for 10 years and have only met one in the line of work... so not overly common here either.

do you pronounce Sass-kia or Sarss-kia?

LuluF · 09/06/2010 18:37

Sass-kia

lidofabiro · 09/06/2010 20:26

Sass-kia

In Dutch (where the name comes from) the first 'a' (Sas-) is pronounced like the first 'a' in Barcelona.

I never thought of Saskia as chavvy. I only ever met one in my life, she was in my sister's class at school and I thought it was a very cool name.
