Ok name changed to protect normal MN identity.

I swore I would never do a name thread but I'm at the early stage of pregnancy with a long sentence ahead so here are my our ideas. We already have a Penelope and Finnian.

BOYS
Artemis
Wilfred
Felix
Augustus
Tobias but don't like toby which seems almost an inevitable NN.

Struggling to find a boys name I love.

GIRLS
Eleanor
Meredith
Persephone
Arianna
Violet
Thea
Willow
Clementine

I really like Arianna and willow but DH not so keen on those two.

Any suggestions welcome.

LOL math DH said the same about Augustas but we both like Gus.

Good point on Thea we don't really do NN as full names so it really should be Theodora.
Hadn't though about the Persephone and Penelope thing it is a bit too macthy.

I do like Hector too but DH says way to old manish.

melondrama I really like Bracken but DH says it's too American and masculine for a girl.

I love Xavier one of my all time favorite but DH hates it.

Rhubarb Olive is a name we both love but have a nephew Oliver.

DH is very very picky over names but he did say if it comes down to it I can pick a name he doesn't love as long as he doesn't hate it. But I'm not sure if thats fair.

Thanks Imarried I didn't know that, thats interesting. Theodora is a lovely name but then people might call her Dora when I would rather Thea but then if I call her Theodora she then has the choice when she is older.

I like Vi - which is what violet will most probably get shortened to at time

telsa · 08/06/2010 23:44

I know a Crimson and a Trilby - both names I have seen mentioned on here in the last couple of days. I thought they were one-offs. Clearly not!

mathanxiety · 09/06/2010 03:49

How about Augustine if Augustus forms images of a great big greedy nincompoop? Or Gustav

LuluF · 09/06/2010 11:48

It was me who mentioned Trilby, I think. I get this from everyone. Trilby is a book by George Du Maurier - a fantastic book - it was one I chose to write on for my dissertation.

Trilby in the novel is a (tone deaf) life model for a small group of artists in Paris (who wears a particular hat - and the hat we know is named after her and this book) and she falls under the spell of the mesmerising and sinister Svengali - and she is able to sing beautifully only in his presence. It's a great book.

I think Clarissa Dickson-Wright (one of the 2 fat ladies) has Trilby among her many, many middle names.

Sadly, I can't persuade anyone to share my enthusiasm for them name - everyone just says - 'but that's a hat!', so I presume I shall have to save it for a cat. (A cat in a hat?)

Sorry - I'm a geek. I'm also very hungry and I think I may be rambling.

Augustine why didn't we think of that. I actually prefer that.

DH suggestion is Valerie.........for a boy!
I vetoed that. I know Russians use it a boys name but I don't think it work quite the same way in the UK!

Really like Xanthe have a friend called Xanthe and she is lovely (I'm superstitious about some names if I know a few bitches with the same name I blame the name -silly I know)
Also Felix is a nice name for a boy with lots of charachter - just my humble opinion
