Quick poll: Liberty (as middle name). Cool or cringe-worthy?

So we have decided first name for DD (slightly unusual but fairly old-fashioned) but can't decide on middle name. We like, amongst others, Liberty, but I can't decide if in 20 yrs time we (or more importantly she) will still think it is a pretty name or just cringe-worthy. Am never too sure about giving these sort of unusual names for this reason.
So quick poll, please? Like or loathe?

I don't like the name Liberty, I'm afraid, but for no real, discernible reason.

I don't think it's that unusual though, and if you do like it, you should go for it.

violethill · 06/06/2010 11:32

I really don't think a middle name is going to be of huge significance. I mean, how often do you use it, or even tell people?

If it flows well with the first name, then why not? Personally I wouldn't choose it as a first name, but I think it could work quite well as a middle name.

lidofabiro · 06/06/2010 11:33

Not sure either way.

pavlovalover · 06/06/2010 11:36

Cringe-worthy, sorry. I think immediately of US flags and freedom fries.
What is it about the name you like? The meaning or the sound? The way it flows with the first name?

Poohbearsmom · 06/06/2010 11:38

What first name did you pick? I wouldnt be mad about Liberty to be honest

annasophia · 06/06/2010 14:14

Don't like Liberty, I'm afraid.

We chose middle names after loved relatives. You don't often say all names together. Go with a name that has meaning to you.

One of my abiding humour moments is being told of a patient called Liberty Grimmet - this was to cheer me up after I and another girl had been ticked off for laughing at the name Imelda Nash-Wanklin. - this older lady said the same thing had happened to her years before with Liberty Grimmet.

I wouldn't do it.

weegiemum · 06/06/2010 14:51

Like.

Go here The Liberty and listen to the last track available "The Liberty".

I like it, not sure why as these kind of names usually put me off!

MagalyZz · 06/06/2010 15:37

I don't like it.

And. As well as not liking it. What happens when she's 14 and wants to go to Chastity's house and you have your doubts that chastity was well named, but Liberty says "you shuddna called me liberty if I have no freeeeeeedom. You never let me do anything or go anywhere, you should have called me priznurrrrrr"

I think it's a great name. Super super super. Very special. Go for it. AND it's not another boring Rose / Grace / whatever the middle names of choice are at the moment.

thedogwalker · 08/06/2010 18:14

I think its a lovely middle name, don't worry to much what other people think, just you and your partner matter.
Good luck

AbFabT · 08/06/2010 18:20

LOVE it. Do it!

HousewifeOfOrangeCounty · 08/06/2010 18:20

Not unusual around these parts, it's just as common as Florence, Flora, Esme etc etc.

SirBoobAlot · 08/06/2010 18:26

Cringe worthy.

PixieCake · 08/06/2010 18:31

I love it!!
Do it - no big risk anyway if it's a middle name.

Takver · 08/06/2010 18:42

OK so long as your surname isn't Hall

pixiestix · 08/06/2010 22:25

Cringe worthy, sorry.

I used to love Liberty but now I think of dolled-up American child beauty pageant entrants -don't know why though!! Sorry!

beccagrace2 · 09/06/2010 13:02

we have one, she is 9 and suits her so much, named after a beautiful school friend.

gwendolenlongstocking · 09/06/2010 14:40
