naming baby same name as neighbours dog

Really like name Leo for a boy. Goes really well with surname and other kids names too. Suprisingly hubby also really likes it - then I remembered that next door neighbour has dog called Leo! How annoying! Does this matter? Just think could be weird shouting my little boys name out back door and her dog comes running! What do u all think?

the fact a dog has the same name wouldn't put me off, the dog won't be there for ever besides, everybody is naming their pets with children names.

As long as you don't call him Fido it should be fine.

It would really put me off, but then I like my dcs to have names that noone else has and I have, sort of, succeeded!

i wouldn't even let it factor in the decision. if i liked the name i would use it. unless it was something really canine like rover

It's fine, don't worry. Besides, dog and baby won't always be neighbours. It'd be a real pity to lose a lovely name for something that truly doesn't matter!

We love the name Tess for a girl - but BIL has dog with the same name - and I don't think it'd put me off, even though we see them quite often. The dog won't be around for ever.

Now you have all got me thinking!! Maybe it doesnt matter then - just be weird when she asks us what our new baby is called. LuluF - thats what my little girl is called - still love it!!

A few days ago I saw a woman yelling "lauren, come back here now!!!. Then saw a lovely yorkshire terrier running past. I still don't think Lauren is a dogs name.

I think in general the onus is on pet owners to decide whether they really want to give pets a popular human name, because at some point they're likely to meet a person with that name.

And Leo isn't a dog's name either. Now if your neighours had a pet lion, I think they could get away with it. So if they hadn't mis-named their dog...

Tess is lovely - I think Leo and Tess go really nicely together, too.

We have a different problem, when we moved to our new house we found out the neighbour has the same name as the dog. Now we have to be really careful about standing at the front door and shouting at the dog.

A couple my parents know have two alsations called Sarah and Leah. That's so wrong isn't it. In answer to your question OP, go for it.

It's funny - all of my in-laws - without exception - have given their dogs names that regularly appear on the baby name board. Proper girls' names - not dogs names - and current and popular ones, too.

Still not quite as funny as Sarah, Leah and Lauren though.

I always hoped I'd have a daughter and name her Chloe, but I guess that would be odd now, as my sister named her cat Chloe. Grr.

That said, since it's just your neighbor's dog, definitely go with Leo! It's a great name. Really like it.
