What do you think of Edmund as a boy's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

It says Blackadder to me, sorry.

I wanted to know if this was liked, as it is much less popular than similar Edward.

It's our top name, the only one we can agree on for a boy. Girls are more difficult.

Is Blackadder a bad association? He was quite a clever chap?

I love love love it,I have always liked it for some reason ,I've never known an Edmund,I just think there's something beautiful about it.

Not so keen. Prefer Edward and Edgar. The only Edmund I've known insisted on being called Ed.

Blackadder - but I LOVE Blackadder!

For me, it has bad literary associations.

The Edmunds in both King Lear and The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe are fairly horrid.

And, yes, also Blackadder.

I rather like it - as I also rather like Esmond.

I have an Edmund. We love it, and quite like the Blackadder connotations. (Next one will be Baldrick if it's a boy, Bernard for a girl)

Although we love it I think lots of people aren't keen (including my mum). And the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe Edmund is not a good association. There is an Edmund in Mansfield Park as well. I think he is OK (can't remember to be honest!)!

I thought Blackadder before I thought Hillary, and I'm a Kiwi.

It's a nice name but it does have an overriding Blackadder connection for me. That's not necessarily a bad thing though - Blackadder will not be widely known by our DCs' generation and if and when an Edmund does stumble across it, they might actually quite like it.

I remember going in for Emergency C-section and in the carnage doctor asked me what his name was going to be, when I told her she wrinkled up her nose and said "What about Blackadder?"! Charming!

Edmund in Lion Witch Wardrobe is GREAT. He's the only character who develops. Starts out horrid, learns from his mistakes and ends up both nicer and more human. I had a total crush on him in my (distant) youth.

Edmund in Mansfield Park, on the other hand, is a prig.

Sounds very clumsy to my ears.
