Here's the shortlist of baby names I'm considering that I generated with Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder. Let me know what you think.

DS1 has a very unusual name and I really wanted another unusual name for DC2 but I cant get OH to agree to any unusual boys names so any comments on list below or suggestions for unusual boys names very welcome. My suggestion of Tennyson was thrown straight out the window..

Boys
Henry
Jasper
Joshua
Leo
Leon
Rupert
Tennyson

Girl s
Alys
Daisy
Liberty
Tilly

What about Conrad or Douglas for boys both traditional names but you wont find many of them around thrse days..

out of the list you have I have to say none of your boys names does much for me (but then I am hard to please w boysnames and I like Tennyson lol - assumed that was out though)

I like Daisy best of the girls names but again hardly unusual What about Tansy?

jenniejennie · 28/05/2010 23:28

Thanks Lonnie. I dont like many of the boys names on my list either! I want an unusual name but none of the ones I have come up with pass the OH test. Leo is my fav from the list (this week). I think it would be a bit odd to have an unusual name for DS1 and a normal name for DC2.

OH is welsh so DS1s name is of welsh origin. Dont like many welsh names but Alys is the welsh version of Alice so I like this name.

Used to love Daisy until it became mega popular, now have gone off it a bit but still love the name.

I do keep plugging Tennyson but OH is very against it! I think it sounds quite normal but is unusual so should have kept us both happy but OH seems to judge a name by whether the child could ever be thought of as a bit soft or thats the impression I get!!

What abotu Caradoc? I belive that to be Welsh its certainly traditional but also unusual play on the welsh part lol

sapell3 · 29/05/2010 08:56

I like

Henry
Joshua
Leo

Alys
Daisy

Joshua Henry or Alys Daisy

nelly83 · 29/05/2010 12:34

What about Reuben, Rylan, Jaxson, Cyrus, Alexander nn Xander, or Rainan. Do u or your oh like any of these? Good luck!

jenniejennie · 29/05/2010 15:12

Thanks all. My husband has come up with some new names which I like.

Xavier
Max
Nehemiah

Well done him for finding some which arent in the top ten baby names!

sapell3 · 29/05/2010 15:13

I like Xavier, Max and Nehemiah too, especially Nehemiah.

janeite · 29/05/2010 15:13

Love Rupert and Daisy.

mopsyflopsy · 29/05/2010 15:14

Xavier is cool. How about Quentin or Felix?
I also like Tennyson.

UnrequitedSkink · 29/05/2010 17:21

Xavier is a fab name - how on earth do you pronounce Nehemiah? Where is it from?

Max is quite nice, but not that unusual.

sapell3 · 29/05/2010 17:32

It's Nee-eh-my-uh. It's a Biblical name.

mumoverseas · 29/05/2010 17:40

Not sure about the boys names but really like Daisy and Tilly. Also, due to the welsh connection, what about Angharad as a girls name. Very lovely welsh name.By the way, I love your name (and spelling) it was my late mum's name and everyone spelt it wrong, with a y instead of ie.

sedgiebaby · 29/05/2010 17:49

Nehemiah is a brave one, I like Kenan which is also biblical and Caleb, I think they still have a strong modern sound to them and not too firmly jewish (possibly mattering if you are not jewish that is)

Of the list I like Leon and Liberty

mathanxiety · 29/05/2010 17:56

Nehemiah is an OT prophet. Cool name, imo.

I like Max, Xavier and Leo from your list and your DH's. I love Alys among your girls' names.

Would you consider
Asa
Asher
Jerome
Isaiah
Aneurin
Justin
Jago
Ivo/ Ivor
Owen
Rhys

jenniejennie · 29/05/2010 19:59

We both like Xavier at the moment which is a massive breakthrough as we have spent 7 1/2 months arguing about not liking the same names. Its early days yet though. I think we need time to think about it. Its quite a brave name choice - although not as brave as DS1s name!

OH loves Isiah. Im thinking about it.

Aneurin is a cool name but it reminds me too much of Aneurin Bevan and being English its a bit too Welsh left wing for me!! I suspect the in laws would love it.

I had all sorts of odd names on my very long list of names but OH hated them all.

(eg Brio, Arlo, Arvel, Calder, Dalton, Arlis)

I do a bit of a Facebook test on new or unusual names and see what all the people with that name look like on facebook. Nehemiah might be out as they all look like gangstas (although I am sure they are all very nice Christian sorts!!) We are not Jewish but OH likes biblical names and so do I.

I love Liberty, but it got a total slating on mumsnet for being chavvy, I had no idea it was and I still think its a lovely name and might just claim ignorance of its popularity with chavs....

There are a few Clementines in family tree and my great grandma used to sing Oh my darling Clementine when we baked cakes together so I love that name.

Alys is a beautiful name and really like that too.

Anyone got a posh Welsh Christian Cool name?

OP posts:
sedgiebaby · 29/05/2010 20:13

lol I didn't know that Liberty was chavvy, I've only ever met one, and she was surly and posh.
Ellis is on my list and welsh origins I think, I like it for a girl (also slated on mumsnet but I'm starting to think this is part of the deal!)

jenniejennie · 29/05/2010 20:18

I think Liberty is quite a posh name too!

Ellis is fab but almost idential to DS1s name! I liked it as a boys name, didnt know you could have it for both but lovely for either.

My Welsh friends have a Taliesin and a Seren.

How about

Tristan
Cassian
Griffin
Rhodri

Lowri
Taryn
Bronwyn
Carys
Rhiannon

mathanxiety · 29/05/2010 20:42

I like Liberty. But then I also like Trinity.

Clementine is lovely, imo, as is Clement for a boy.

Jeremiah
Boaz
Andreas
Austin
Blaise
Geraint
Huw
Celyn
Vaughn

jenniejennie · 29/05/2010 20:51

Love Taliesin - never heard that before. I have lots of welsh name books but havent spotted it. Google says its pronounced tal-ee-ES-in.

I dont def want a welsh name, I like all sorts of odd boys names lol! Not many of my girls names are Welsh.

Seren is lovely but a bit popular at the moment. Well I know lots of them anyway....
