Is Theya (not Thea) a real name? And what do you think of it?

Still struggling for girls name. I like Thea. DH doesn't. Have been suggested Theya instead (rhymes with Freya, rather than Theee-ahh) which we both quite like but I can't find this is any baby name books etc. So does it actually exist?! And what do people think of it? Or should I just go with Thea?

How do you pronounce Thea - Theeya or Taiya?

herewegoloopyloo · 24/05/2010 22:13

THea - pronounced Theeeeya. How is Taiya pronounced?

I like Thea. I haven't heard of Theya, but there's a name Taya which comes from the Russian name Taisiya.

Why not just go for Freya?

TRL · 25/05/2010 09:35

I know a Theia, pronounced like yr Theya to rhyme with Freya. It's Greek meaning 'goddess', I think, basically the same meaning/derivation as Thea. The original Theia was one of the 12 Titans in mythology. Pretty good credentials .

I'm not keen i'm afraid, never heard of it.
You could have many problems relating to how you pronounce and spell it too, judging by this thread!

evamummy · 25/05/2010 09:53

Personally, I wasn't sure how to pronounce Thea, as Thee-a or They-a.

However, I would always pronounce Theya as They-a, similar to Freya.

It depends what pronounciation you prefer, I guess.

sapell3 · 25/05/2010 10:00

With Theya I think you would always be correcting people who thought you said Freya or Thea.

Ok Thanks. It looks like would be better to just go with Thea - if can persuade DH. Will have to consider how much want to face correcting people all the time...!

Why not Thora?

Similar to Thea.

Thora means "Thunder" which I think is pretty cool.

Hey!

My names spelt Theya. (Pronounced “Thea”)
I’m 23 and I’ve noticed people always struggle to pronounce my name - however no one else has this spelling so it feels very unique.

Hope this helps! ☺️

@TheyaUma this thread is from 2010. The child will be almost 10 years old now 🤦🏻‍♀️

Thea is gorgeous, as is Freya.

If you want the sound Theya I would either spell it Theya or Theia - probably the latter.
