Girls names Claudia and Rowan, what do you think? Be as honest as you like!

I like both but loads of Rowan's around where I am, so Claudia for me...
PS have you considered Lowen

sophiesmummie · 24/05/2010 17:26

The meaning of Claudia would put me off, unfortunately.

curlygurly · 24/05/2010 17:31

Don't care much about meaning...my name means princess, never done anything for me!!!

Not thought of Lowen? Sounds more masculine maybe?

OP posts:
sedgiebaby · 24/05/2010 17:35

Oh maybe Lowen is more masculine, I quite like a strong sounding girls name (well not manly) I love Ellis for a girl but this is more commonly a boys name. At the same time I love the girly names too lol!

sapell3 · 24/05/2010 18:13

Not sure why, but I'm afraid I don't particularly like Claudia or Rowan.

How about

Clara
Clementine
Clemency
Rowena
Robyn

LetThereBeRock · 24/05/2010 18:16

I love Claudia. It's one of my favourite names.

I like Rowan too but only for a boy.

beccagrace2 · 24/05/2010 18:16

love love claudia but then i'm biased as we have a squishy little claudia here!!

LynetteScavo · 24/05/2010 18:18

I love Claudia, but I'm not keen on Rowan.

poppydaisy · 24/05/2010 18:18

I'm afraid I don't like either, Rowan sounds too masculine to my ears (Rowan Atkinson) and Claudia has such a sad meaning (disabled/lame).

minipie · 24/05/2010 18:24

Rowan is a lovely BOY's name.

Claudia I'm not keen on (and can't think of a nice nn)

Takver · 24/05/2010 19:00

I like Rowan better - don't think of it as a boys name at all (I know both a small girl & small boy Rowan). Pretty without being 'girly' IMO.

curlygurly · 24/05/2010 22:53

I quite like Claude or Claudie for a nn for Claudia, can't think of a nn for Rowan though???
Any ideas?

LetThereBeRock · 24/05/2010 22:55

Do you need a nickname? Why can't you just call her Rowan/Claudia?

I've never understood the need for nicknames, unless it's a particuarly long name.

LetThereBeRock · 24/05/2010 22:57

Re Claudia I don't think the meaning of Claudia is a big issue.

The meaning of a name would have little impact on my decision, unless it meant 'Satan's hell spawn'.Perhaps then I might think twice about using it.

curlygurly · 25/05/2010 08:25

You're right LetThereBeRock
there does seem to be an obsession with shortening names...I don't have one, I'm just called my name!

OP posts:
diddl · 25/05/2010 08:50

Yes-when we chose names, nns never occurred to us!

We don´t shorten our childrens names-we chose names that we like as they are & use them!

Takver · 25/05/2010 11:13

Claudie is pretty though. Actually, Claudia pronounced in English is pretty too (I only know a German one, so always think of it pronounced that way).

OrmRenewed · 25/05/2010 11:14

I like Rowan but not Claudia. We used to have a little boat called Rowan and they are one of my favourite trees.

evamummy · 25/05/2010 11:28

I'm not keen on Claudia, I'm afraid. Rowan is nice great for boys.

swanandduck · 25/05/2010 12:47

Claudia is lovely, Rowan a bit makey uppy.

Rubena · 25/05/2010 13:04

Claudia was on my shortlist - didn't go off it due to the meaning as I don't think many people even know the meaning of their names! I just knocked it down my list as some of my family didn't care for it which I know is the wrong reason. I still love it so it may still be used. I like it much better than Rowan by the way too.
Claudia is classy without sounding snobby at all. Very pretty name.

rubyslippers · 25/05/2010 13:05

i love the name Claudia

i think it is a great name for a baby and a woman

DD was so nearly Claudia ...

ZZZenAgain · 25/05/2010 13:06

I don't like either name really

sorry

Rubena · 25/05/2010 13:07

letthereberock PMSL!!!

MrsJohnDeere · 25/05/2010 13:14

The Rowans I know are boys.

I prefer Robyn/Robin myself.

Love Claudia. Bit biased because I know an adorable little Claudia (4yo ds1's current 'girlfriend' ).
