names of ex's

some of my ex's have pretty normal names and I don't have any bad feelings towards them so if I loved the name wouldn't be bothered, there is one ex who has a fairly unusual name (well, everyone pronably only knows one rather than five) and a lot is tied up in him so though I love the name could never use it.

DH refuses to discuss ANY ex names, including his ex-girlfriend's surnames (one girl had Sebastian as a surname, which I love but am not allowed), on close examination aside from one ex, like mine, it seems it's literally because they're just names of people he's slept with so he's uncomfortable...fine.

what are your opinions on using the names of ex's?

my DS has the same name as my first "relationship" and sexual partner. DH didnt mind..... and even by coincidence DS has the same middle name too! But then again Daniel James is a popular name!

Clary · 22/05/2010 22:29

I wouldn't really. Also I wouldn't want to because they are not the kinds of names I like - ie people my age are all called Karen, Helen, Joanne, Steve, Stuart, Dave - not names I would pick tbh.

i couldn't!

i like the name Joel, but never even suggested it because it would just have made me think of him.

I couldn't bear to use the name of an ex. I mean, a significant one, not one you had as a teenager.

DanJARMouse · 22/05/2010 22:33

See, I dont even think of my ex. I guess it depends on how you feel about it. As far as Im concerned my ex will always hold that special place because he was my "first" but a name is a name. My Daniel, and my ex are obviously completely different people!

I also go for traditional names anyway, so when naming DS we were stuck with Daniel, Matthew or Adam...... and Daniel won! James was always going to be the middle name as it is my dads name.

Clary · 22/05/2010 22:36

Actually I never went out with Steve, Dave or Stu! Still my general point stands, I think.

Blimey I went out with some poncily named blokes! Still I did go to sub-Oxbridge uni...

Clary · 22/05/2010 22:37

Danjarmouse I went out with a Daniel too!

He always used to complain that he would hear women calling "Daniel" in supermarket aisles, meaning their 3yos but he would look round... (this was about 25 yrs ago)

DanJARMouse · 22/05/2010 22:46

It makes me laugh because my ex Daniel is now my FB friend and insists on being Dan, but it just doesnt sit right with me! He will always be Daniel!

My Daniel is a Daniel, and will be forever. I will NEVER EVER shorten his name, despite shortening the girls - Jessica is Jess, Jessi or Jay (dont know why!) and Rebecca is Becca, Becky or Boo (baby nickname)

My Ex's were in order..... David, Daniel, Chris and Stuart. I am now married to a David (not the first one!) and he is a Dave rather than David!

Hah thanks to this thread I have gone and googled a few exes...

My first lurrrve has a rather unusual name. Turns out he is now an award-winning teacher, he sounds pretty cool actually, so at least I had a bit of taste!

MagalyZz · 23/05/2010 12:14

Well with exes that had names like Neil I was never tempted.

colditz · 23/05/2010 12:15

ds1 has an ex's name.

GladioliBuckets · 23/05/2010 14:56

DH vetoed one of middle name shortlist for DS2 because it was one of my ex's. He might have forgotten but I stupidly piped up while in labour 'oh and I think it's Ex's birthday today as well.'

MrsElf · 23/05/2010 21:29

We reasoned ex's = fine, but I always liked DSS mother's name, and obviously that's out of the question.
