Joseph as a DB to Zoe ..... so could be Joe and Zoe

I have one DD, Zoe, and am having a DS soon.

I really like the name Joseph, but realise that it is likely to get abbreviated to Joe.

When speaking this is fine, but written down.... Zoe and Joe?? Looks a bit odd, and as though they should be pronounced the same i.e. Zo-ee and Joey, or Zo and Jo

Am I thinking about this too much? I probably wouldn't particularly write it as Joe (thinking Christmas cards etc), so maybe it would never be an issue?

I like both Joseph and Joe, so am not really asking opinions on the name, more on the combination with my daughter's name

Come on wise Mumsnetters, please give me your opinions. Thanks

It is fine.

I saw it and that "Jo and Zo - that can't be right!". But as you're not goin to be writing their names together very often it may not matter. Alternatively you could write Joseph & Zoe, or Joey & Zoe. Though wouldn't it actually be Zoe first, as she's the elder?

PrettyCandles · 22/05/2010 19:08

Hmm that's odd - I reversed the names in my head. I'm going nuts.

thisisyesterday · 22/05/2010 19:12

i think it's absolutely fine

for most of their lives they are not going to be known as "zoe and joe" are they?
you'r edef overthinking it!

skidoodly · 22/05/2010 19:13

I don't think I would have noticed this if someone I knew had a DD called Zoe and then named their son Joseph.

But now that you mention it I can see what you mean. It would melt my head a bit I think.

Joseph is a very good name though. What about something like Matthew instead?

skidoodly · 22/05/2010 19:14

There's probably some celeb called Zoe Matthews now...

BoldChislers · 22/05/2010 19:14

Joe and Zoe looks funny written down I'll give you that! BUT when you hear it as Jo and Zowee it sounds absolutely fine.

I think pp is right, when you write it down, make a point of always writing Joseph and Zoe, even if you call him Joe.

Zoe is A Beautiful name.

autodidact · 22/05/2010 19:15

Wouldn't worry about it at all. Joseph is a great name.

mathanxiety · 22/05/2010 19:17

I'd go ahead -- both lovely imo, and they sound different enough.

InTheZenGarden · 22/05/2010 19:41

Thank you all so much, am so glad that no one has said "NO"!

I like Matthew too... and it is one of the more traditional names that isn't already in the family, or been used by my mother to name a cat in the past So that will be added to our list - only 4 names on it so far, so we need some inspiration

Thanks again

I think it would be fine. I like Joseph btw, I think it's very nice with Zoe.

I like it, and I love how Zoe and Joe look written together, especially beacause they don't sound the same.
