We have been told we're having a girl but we just cant agree on names- DH is adamant he wont consider anything but Eleanor, but my niece is called Ella and I think its too similar....am I being too fussy cos I do like it...

The rest of the shortlist (well mine as he is being so stubborn!) are Summer, Iris and Sennen (which is Cornish as is he)....Think I might get him to agree to Sennen cos of the Cornish link - what do people think? Too unusual?

Hope we can decide soon or it'll be rows in the delivery room!!

Eleanor is lovely.

You could have the nickname ''Nell''

Also like Sennen and Iris. Not keen on Summer

BoldChislers · 21/05/2010 12:39

your h is being ridiculous. he can't just pick one name and insist that no other name even be considered, especially when it's so close to your niece's name! Don't allow him to dictate like that.

I can only see one post, the last one on page 1 and it mentions 'senna'. I'm thinking about Senokot. is that the connection?!

BoldChislers · 21/05/2010 12:40

ps, Leonora is a beautiful version of Eleanor wiht lots of nns. lovely

swanandduck · 21/05/2010 13:45

Tegen and Tamsyn are pretty Cornish names.

liliputlady · 21/05/2010 14:25

Eleanor is lovely - really don't think it matters about cousin Ella, may be would if they were sisters.

Serena?

Ineedsomesleep · 21/05/2010 14:28

Tegan is getting very "popular" too. (see GuntherMcKilocodie's comments on Summer)

madly · 21/05/2010 14:34

Agree with others that Leonora is gorgeous. And you don't get the Ella/Ellie nns.

Good Luck with the birth

theagedparent · 21/05/2010 14:36

I thought it said Semen through my bleary eyes!
Eleanor is very very popular.
I like the suggestion of Morwenna

BoldChislers · 21/05/2010 15:39

I love Tegan. Never knew it was Cornish. I don't like Regan at all, but Tegan is a bit less sur namey sounding and a prettier sound.

mamatomany · 21/05/2010 15:43

What about Tegan cornish for lovely little thing

mamatomany · 21/05/2010 15:44

Doh that'll teach me to read the thread before posting !

bluebump · 21/05/2010 15:46

I like Eleanor and Iris as they are family names. I do like Summer too, not too keen on Sennen though.

swanandduck · 21/05/2010 16:01

Great minds mamtomany.

mamatomany · 21/05/2010 16:04

I actually have a Tegan and it's not bloody common popular at all we've never met another in 8 years.
OP It is a lovely name and she is a lovely, very pretty blonde girl who is sweet and kind. Every home should have one

GRW · 21/05/2010 16:30

What about Helena?- it's a bit like Eleanor but won't be shortened to Ellie. I have a 12 year old Helen, who loves her name.

SalFresco · 21/05/2010 22:29

I also love Kerenza. Eleanor is a very pretty name, but it's popularity would put me off unless I was absolutely in love with it...which you don't seem to be!

Ineedsomesleep · 22/05/2010 17:02

Mamatomany, I know two and when our local paper did their Annual Baby Contest last year there were pages of Tegans.

Ineedsomesleep · 22/05/2010 17:23

Sorry, when I said I know 2 Tegans I actually meant there are 2 in the same school as DS. I do actually know quite a few more.

telsa · 23/05/2010 22:31

Sennen is very lovely. Colenso. Lowenna and Gwenap are other pretty Cornish names. If he likes Eleanor, what about Ennor, a Cornish unisex name or Elowen.

Clary · 24/05/2010 00:16

I find Sennen a bit unusual... one of those names that doesn't sound like a name (even tho I have been to Sennen Cove) and might make people go "eh?" I also agree it makes me think of Senna pods.

I like Iris, Summer is a bit whacky for me but increasingly popular, and Eleanor is lovely but alas (IMO) very very popular. Almost every girl in yr 1 at our school is called Ellie, Emily, Ella or Amelia. Well nto really but it feels like it.

Also I agree Eleanor a bit close to Ella.

Sorry no Cornish knowledge to help you with names there. Some nice suggestions on this thread tho.

TheNextMrsDepp · 24/05/2010 00:30

Sennen is a cool name, makes me think of surfing at Sennen Cove; hadn't thought of senna (and how many children know much about laxatives tbh?). Short and easy to spell, but unusual.
Ella/Eleanor, bleaurgh, far too popular - there are hundreds about.

telsa · 24/05/2010 00:39

What about Leonora - as rather like Eleanor but different! Anyway Eleanor is really nice. My friend Eleanor goes by the name of Nell.
Iris conjures up for me eyeballs and also the new border control eye recognition system!

sapell3 · 24/05/2010 09:25

I thought "senna" too I'm afraid.

I like Eleanor and Summer, but dislike Iris.

Eleanor Summer would be a lovely name.
