feedback on Sis in laws name list

flopsy1974 · 13/05/2010 10:26

My sis in law has just found out that she is having a boy.
She has a name list and asked me for feedback on it the other day. Not sure myself as we have already chosen our babys names. Fortunately as ours is due first she can't pinch our names.
This is the list.
Daniel
Ethan
Samuel
Jacob
Edward
Henry
Joel

Possible middle names only are
Matthew
Andrew
James

What do you think to these names?
How popular are they in your area?

Thanks

Do you think she's given you this as a subtle hint not to pinch any of 'her' names???

Pancakeflipper · 13/05/2010 10:31

The names are fine. Nowt horrific, outstanding etc... In fact it was a dull read. Expecting to be able to take the piss.

As long as it fits the surname what's the problem?

Thissideofchannel · 13/05/2010 10:35

I find them all ok but quite dull to be honest. They wouldn't be my choices, but your sister in law has to love them. Does she?

Chathappy · 13/05/2010 10:38

All nice names but what the others said - very traditional and un-offensive. I'd pick Jacob as I'm biased and have a Jacob myself

But there are no names there that I don't like though. Isn't there one or two that really stand out to her? As previous poster said, she does have to love the name.

flopsy1974 · 13/05/2010 11:07

Don't worry she hasn't pinched my names. not yet at least.
I'm not so sure that she does love them. That's why I'm asking peoples opinions. I suspect these are names that she doesn't dislike.
I think she wants a name that will stand the test of time. But not so popular that there are three others in the school class.

Any ideas would probably be welcome.

She already has an Alexander.

All nice classic names, although I'm not so keen on Joel and Ethan.

Nancy66 · 13/05/2010 12:44

they're ok. bill dull

sophiesmummie · 13/05/2010 13:01

I don't really like any of them, personally. There is nothing wrong with them, they're just not my taste.

wilbur · 13/05/2010 13:07

I like them all except Joel, but that's only because I had a dreadful boss with that name! Edward is fab and due for a resurgence, IMO (although maybe there is already a mini Edward army due to Twilight?).

DuelingFanjo · 13/05/2010 13:10

I like them apart from Joel and Henry.
Lots of them I wouldn't call my own child (andrew, James) as I think they are quite boring. I think I prefer Ethan, Jacob and Samuel out of them all.

dinkystinky · 13/05/2010 13:13

Know children with all of those names - prefer Daniel but that'll be because I have one of those too.

Lizzylou · 13/05/2010 13:14

Henry is very popular, but nice

Don't like Ethan.

The rest of the names are lovely, know 2 Joels and a few Daniels (of varying ages, 1 is my 30 something brother).

Francagoestohollywood · 13/05/2010 13:17

A bit dull on the whole, but not too bad. The ones I really don't like is Ethan and Joel.

Francagoestohollywood · 13/05/2010 13:18

Henry and Daniel are my fav on the list

flopsy1974 · 13/05/2010 13:58

Shown my sis in law your feedback.
Daniel Jacob is looking like the favourite as that is the name her DH likes best.

I don't like Joel or Ethan, which both sound really wet to me.

Of the rest, I like Sam, Daniel and Henry.

lilmissmummy · 13/05/2010 17:43

I have a Jacob so obviously like that name. However I read that Jacob was really popular last year because of the Twilight films and was likely to be more popular this year and next.

Out of the rest of the names I know 1 Henry, 1 Samuel, 1 and 1 Ethan.

I like Edward.

loobylu3 · 13/05/2010 20:12

I love Henry and Edward.

thisisyesterday · 13/05/2010 20:15

all very popular round here except Joel, Edward and Samuel

i like all of them esp Edward whoich is ds2;s middle name, and Joel, which is nice and underused
