before i put my foot in it with ds' friend? Have only seen it written down and he says it is a-liss-ee-a (a as in apple). I only know it from Malory Towers and thought it was Aleesha. Ds cannot be relied on for definitely having this right as he is 4 and prone to renaming people as he thinks they should be. (usually by calling them Lovely x, Lion Y or Ladybird Z)

It can be both so don't panic, just ask. I had a friend called A-liss-ee-a and have taught an Aleesha.

grumpypants · 11/05/2010 16:13

oh no! so, 50;50 i get it wrong! Thanks tho - my Malory Towers memories remain safe.

Could be either. I prefer A-li-see-a, as it is more similiar to Alice.

Missus84 · 11/05/2010 16:26

English pronounciation is Alissia, Americans say Aleesha.

thisisyesterday · 11/05/2010 16:27

A-liss-ee-a

swanandduck · 11/05/2010 16:28

I prefer A liss - ee -a. Aleesha just reminds me of Aleesha Dixon.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 11/05/2010 16:30

A-liss-ee-a

Aleesha is too American and/or RnB

SilveryMoon · 11/05/2010 16:30

A friend of mine has a dd called Alicia. A was pronouncing it A-liss-ee-a but it is pronounced aleesha

FrazzleRock · 11/05/2010 16:30

I would spell A-liss-ee-a 'Alysia'
Probably because I know someone with an Alysia.
My first thought when I heard her name was spelt that way too.

Alicia is definitely A-lee-sha

(Imho)

NoahAndTheWhale · 11/05/2010 16:31

My knowledge did come from Malory Towers and I thought it was a-liss-ee-a. Seems to be Alisha when I have met people with the name.

MunchkinsMumof2 · 11/05/2010 16:34

alice eeee aaaaa

BallpointPen · 11/05/2010 16:35

A-liss-ea.

Pretty name.

grumpypants · 11/05/2010 16:39

well, thank goodness there's only two versions!

A-liss-ea is how Enid Blyton would have pronounced it. I went to school with one but people are starting to pronounce it as Aleesha, which is a shame as it's put me off the name as I know how irritating having a name no-one can pronounce is

tyler80 · 11/05/2010 18:02

I had a Mallory Towers book on tape and it was A-liss-ee-a

I have an American friend who is also an 'A-liss-ee-a"

gomummygo · 11/05/2010 18:10

Hmm, well...I had two staff members who both had children with this name and pronounced it totally differently with the same spelling:

A-liss-ee-ya
Al-ee-sha

Both were utterly offended if it was pronounced wrong too, it was confusing!

Thissideofchannel · 12/05/2010 10:28

Al-iss-ee-a is much, much nicer than Alisha (which is horrible to my ears)!

LadyOfTheFlowers · 12/05/2010 10:30

ah lih see ah
