Well our shortlist has narrowed right down to two names. We will wait to meet dd2 before deciding but I am unsure about DH's choice. Names are

Anna
Eve (nn Evie)

Now I'm not bothered about Eve/Evie being popular as names tend to disperse as you get older (I know as I was one of about 6 Jenny's in school but know hardly any now!)but our DD is Holly and I think Evie sounds like Ivy or could be referenced to christmas eve, am I never going to hear the end of this one or can we get away with it? This is actually DH's favourite this time (has been my favourite girls name since I was about 14 but he said no last time!!) This time I am veering towards Anna. Anyways, after opinions on the Holly and Eve thing really, thanks mnetters

i know someone with daughters called Holly and Eve. i don't think it's a problem

i prefer Anna though

ilovesprouts · 06/05/2010 20:57

eve is lovely

Hulababy · 06/05/2010 21:00

I don't think Eve/Evie sound like Ivy, doubt most people would think Holly and Eve would be an issue at all.

I do like Anna too though.

theagedparent · 06/05/2010 21:10

Anna is the nicest

Doozie · 06/05/2010 21:14

Anna

oceryo · 06/05/2010 21:22

Anna

tacticalfloosy · 06/05/2010 21:28

Anna.

alyssa1980 · 07/05/2010 08:14

Eve/Evie

GiraffeYoga · 07/05/2010 08:34

Anna.

Eve is lovely but not Evie. The world is calling their dds evie at the moment!!!

Upgrade · 07/05/2010 09:15

Holly and Evie will just confuse everybody. They will assume you have named your daughters Holly and Ivy.

I think I would go for Anna (or Annie)

sophieandbelly · 07/05/2010 09:26

i have an evie and obviously love love love the name, i agree with it not being an issue, wen i named my dd i only knew of one other and she was 10 at the time! and now there r loads of evies!!

anna is on my list this time so we must like similar names! my dp likes holly and so does my dd! (altho think my dd is basing it on ben and hollys little kingdom!!)

p.s evie nothing like ivy dnt let it put u off

Lovethesea · 07/05/2010 09:27

Anna - lovely strong and feminine name with a great meaning. Could be anything being named Anna. Evie to me is a bit sweet and girly.

Journey · 07/05/2010 09:33

I would think of Holly and Ivy I'm afraid. It's a shame because if it wasn't for this Holly and Evie do sound nice together. Could you use Ava instead?

Anna is what I call an extremely safe name because it is so neutral. It's a pleasant enough name but just so dull and unimaginative.

sungirltan · 07/05/2010 09:34

anna is classic and chic

Ineedsomesleep · 07/05/2010 09:38

Go for Anna. FWIW I don't think names do disperse. I was one of 5 in my class and am 1 of 4 at work.

CakeandRoses · 07/05/2010 09:43

Much prefer Anna but I don't think there is a real issue with Holly and Evie together.

Upgrade · 07/05/2010 09:55

I agree with Ineedsomesleep.

Looking at my friends list on face book, it's all the same names doubling up now as at school. Several Nicolas, claires, Suzannes, Jennys. Obviously you can guess I'm not 22 from the names of my friends.

Thanks for all the replies
I am loving Anna, although as I chose Holly for DD1 I think it would be nice if DH got his choice for DD2. Evie has been one of my faves for ages (although would be Eve on birth certificate for grown up name!) so I figure its win win for me :D And it looks like majority of people don't really make the Holly and Ivy connection so I think I will let DH choose between the 2 when DD2 arrives. I will be telling him about the positive reactions to Anna though!

Much prefer Anna. Timeless classic.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 07/05/2010 14:12

I love Anna too but we didn't consider it as close friends' daughter is Anna.

Astrophe · 07/05/2010 14:20

I prefer Anna too (although don't think Holly/Evie is a prob).

Just out of interest, how would a name 'disperse'? Are all the Jennys of yesteryear dying already?

Nifa86 · 07/05/2010 14:45

lol @ Astrophe!
When I was at school all my friends were the same age as me, now my friends and workmates span over more than a decade and peoples names reflect this. Plus it never really bothered me having a common name!

mathanxiety · 07/05/2010 14:49

I prefer Anna too.

Rockbird · 07/05/2010 15:37

Anna is a beautiful name. But the 4,795,239 Sarahs I was with at school haven't dispersed yet...

MoppingMummy · 07/05/2010 21:16

prefer Anna!
