Irish boys' names?

Looking for something nice in a boys' name. My dd1 has a lovely irish first name and as we all got a lovely English surname thanks to DH I'd like to keep the balance. But I just can't find one I like...any inspiration out there?

I love Daragh. DS1 would have been Daragh, except DH's cousin got there first

trixiechick · 02/05/2010 18:43

agree chickens but the neighbours got there first. you should be able to put deposits on names

Tadhg is the best name ever but my DH wouldn't entertain it

Declan
Oisín
Cormac
Ciarán
Eoin
Éamonn

any of those to your liking?

skidoodly · 02/05/2010 19:09

little

I like Tadhg too, but similarly DH will have none of it. I couldn't blame him though because the only Tadhg he's ever known was a total and utter asshole whereas I've known lots of lovely Tadhgs to balance it out.

trixiechick · 02/05/2010 19:19

hmm I too know dodgy Tadghs....maybe the same ones....
I've always liked Naoise but...does it sound a bit girly? My DH looked at me very strangely when I last mentioned it. I stomped off determined to find my primary school reader to prove what a manly hero Naoise was...

any others we haven't listed? This is where I usually give up and my dh says '

I love Naoise too but my (English) DH thinks it sounds like a girl's name.

What about Uisneagh?

trixiechick · 02/05/2010 19:23

Oran/Odhran

skidoodly · 02/05/2010 19:28

ushna

Naoise was one of the sons of Uisneagh (you'll see it when you find that primary school book to show your DH )

I love it.

Sazisi · 02/05/2010 19:28

Aran or Rían?

trixiechick · 02/05/2010 19:35

oran/odhran is nice too sazisi. Aran would not work as all family from same island. much scoffing would ensue.
Really liking Uisneagh skidoodly......
would the english half of the family tie themselves up in knots with it though?
Ah they'll learn......

Loved Naoise too but DH wouldnt entertain it as "sounds too much like a girl's name..".

We've just had an Oisín - I love it.

BarbieLovesKen · 02/05/2010 22:01

("it" being the name and not the baby by the way)

BarbieLovesKen · 02/05/2010 22:02

(although we do obviously love the baby too btw..)

skidoodly · 02/05/2010 22:50

PMSL @ Barbie

Oisín is a gorgeous name.
