Hi
I posted a few wks ago about my friend who is preg with her first and she likes the name Mia, but couldnt decide whether Mia or Maya......
Anyway, she now likes Esme (said as Ezmee, if nobody knows, no offence if u do) I also love the name...would be an option if i have a DD (if she didnt choose of course)

Opinions please?

Mia or Esme?

Middle name Louise

I prefer Esme - very nice

PuppyMonkey Bluebell! That's really lovely. That's going straight on my list!

Esme is really nice.

I taught a lovely one (pronounced Ez-mee) in my A level class last year - children from school always affect my opinions on names.

i love Esme, (pronounced either way) but dh said no
lots of Mias/Amelias.

I really love the name Ezme, Samantha Morton has a dd by that name, I always remembered that name from some long old interview she did.

so how is the french version of Esmee pronouced then (& does it matter because we are in the UK rather than France so no french accent ?)

Es-mee
Es-may (maaaaaaaaaaaaay sounds odd)
< insert french version

I have a daughter called Esme Paige. We pronounce it Ez may as that is how I have always heard it pronounced. It does annoy me a bit when people say ez mee, but I suppose people will if they aren't familiar with the name.

Love it

My dtr is an Esme (pronounced mee) and, funny, it always annoys me when people pronounce it 'may' which I had always thought they did as they were not familiar with the name!
We are not in France, we are not French, it doesn't have an accent - why would someone call her Esmay?

loonyrationalist · 12/05/2010 14:55

Lovely name - not that I am biased.. Much prefer the accented version though.

It is like the name Andre, that has no accent over the last e but is pronounced 'ay'. I think it may come from its Spanish origins.
