So fed up of every name I like being awful with our surname, its the same with boys names:

Saul
Seth
Joel
Ted (not keen on Edward as full name)

And so many more I have had to rule out, I may just tell dh to name this child as I'm convinced I will not find a name I love that I can use

I think Seth Leigh is ok. Or Ted. You just need to avoid names that end in either 'l' or an eee sound.

Poohbearsmom · 29/04/2010 09:56

i know a family of leighs they hav a kevin, paul and sally which i thinl is very pretty ame thats a double ll too... Theres a very famous old irish boxer called sean leigh which i think is a great name!

ProfessorLaytonIsMyLoveSlave · 29/04/2010 09:58

I think even an eee sound is OK. Toby Lee, for example, sounds fine. It's when a first name ends in a -lee sound (like Holly or Molly) so it gets very tonguetwisty or in a -l (like Saul or Joel) so the names run together that it plain doesn't work. Or where the whole name winds up sounding like an adverb.

What about

Sam
Caleb
Ethan
Jacob
David
Joseph
Silas
Isaac

or

Iris
Ivy
Tabitha
Rosalind
Fern
Violet
Alice
Imogen
Juliet

I do sympathise -- many of my favourite names just don't work AT ALL with DH's surname and in some cases would have people ROFL if we ever actually used them.

belgo · 29/04/2010 09:59

Holly can be used whatever time of year a girl is born. It is after all an evergreen.

What about

Heather
Hazel

belgo · 29/04/2010 10:06

Heidi Leigh is also pretty.

henry37 · 29/04/2010 13:08

holly is a beautiful name but i think its a no with your surname.

GladioliBuckets · 29/04/2010 13:47

How about May Leigh? Still a tree but has an oriental feel to it.

GladioliBuckets · 29/04/2010 13:48

Seth Leigh is wicked!

mathanxiety · 29/04/2010 15:48

Holly Leigh won't work.

Nor will Isaac Leigh (exactly)
Ivy Leigh (Ivy League)
Violet Leigh (violently)
or Fern Leigh (sounds like the name of a B&B)

Charlotte
Keziah
Kirsten
Anastasia
Johanna
Antonia
Sylvia/Sylvie
Miriam
Josephine
Z oe
Rebecca
Margaret
Elizabeth
Susanna
Maya
Marianne

bytheMoonlight · 29/04/2010 20:36

I like some of those names mathanxiety but I don't 'love' any of them unfortunatly

OP posts:
kailie · 30/04/2010 14:27

definitely a no! too unfair to a poor child

bytheMoonlight · 30/04/2010 20:04

Is Ted Leigh really ok? I really like Ted.

I think I'm going to go with Florence for a girls name, not keen on Flo but Florence is the only girls name I love that is usable.

I don't think it sounds right too many lees.

waitingimpatiently · 02/05/2010 12:58

You could hyphenate it. Holly-Anne Leigh doesn't sound as bad imo.

MailyDail · 02/05/2010 13:01

i think it's fine, tbh. florrie leigh is nice as well. i can see why people think it's funny but i bet irl it would be fine as well. i don't remember anyone laughing their heads off at laurie lee, for example.

tillywee · 03/05/2010 20:09

It is a bit wrong...sorry

jemtalk · 16/08/2012 20:27

every time I came up with name for our babes my husband put on his 8 year old boy head (well he has it on most of the time like most men) and told me why certain girls names were wrong, yes a way of getting his own choice but sorry long winded way of say Holly leigh is not going to work

SirBoobAlot · 16/08/2012 20:31

Holly doesn't work, but Florence is really nice :)

bruffin · 16/08/2012 20:37

Baby probably 2 years old now

SirBoobAlot · 16/08/2012 23:50

Oh bollocks. I do hate when people revive old threads...

Wonder what OP went for.

PipIsOutNow · 17/08/2012 12:56

I've got the same issue. I love the name Hallie but surname is Harris and will not use it for that reason :(
