having boy/girl twins, the boy will definitely be called nico. had in mind cleo or hero for girl but apprently matching names are a no no for twins for individuality reasons and i have to say i agree. but now back to square 1 for girls names...any idea? please nothing dull, (ie jane) but equally nothing flowery (ie, daisy) or retro (ie, pearl)- just to make clear i think these names are lovely i just dont think they're right for us. also nothing too grand (see my name) if anyone could come up with a lovely name within these specifications i would be eternally grateful as it seems to be beyond me.

I just looked up the meaning of Nico - victory of the people! You could perhaps choose a name with same/similar meaning? So there's a link but not a dead obvious one. Link here to list of names with similar meanings - I really like Collette!

cumbria81 · 25/04/2010 07:18

isn't Nico an abbreviation?

Nico is a Greek/Italian sounding name so I would go for a girls name with a similar origin:

Sofia
Chloe
Ariana (my favourite)
Anna
Isabella
Ilaria

FanjolinaJolie · 25/04/2010 07:57

Love Anna and Astrid

Sofia is lovely

I think Hero is gorgeous though and goes so well with Nico - is it really too matchy?

dizzydixies · 25/04/2010 09:45

I know of a nico with sisters Megan and Jodie

Magaly · 25/04/2010 09:53

thought of a good one.

I was going to suggest something of Greek origin like Nico but not ending in an 'o' to make it less matchy:

Nico and Phoebe
Nico and Sophia
Nico and Daphne
Nico and Cora
Nico and Elena
Nico and Calliope
Nico and Iris
Nico and Thea

or something short and sweet:
Nico and Ivy
Nico and Mila
Nico and Romy/ Roma
Nico and Lara
Nico and Maya
Nico and Eve
Nico and Laurel
Nico and Maude
Nico and Adele
Nico and Jaya

Do you like any of those?

SE13Mummy · 25/04/2010 12:58

I think I'd probably avoid something with the same beginning or end sounds for twins so wouldn't use Cleo or Hero. However I see no reason why you couldn't choose other names that match by meaning/origin so other Greek names such as Iris, Beryl, Phoebe, Lois, Lydia, Tansy, Tess, Sofia or Zoe might work well.

Biscuitbreaker · 25/04/2010 21:28

Congrats on your boy/girl twins - what wonderful news! Have you chosen Nico just because you love it? Or does it reflect your/DP's heritage, family members etc...

I ask partly because I am considering it too and also if you want it to reflect your background you could chose a girl's name with a similar feel.

largeginandtonic · 25/04/2010 21:38

Bella. I think it goes so nicely with Nico.

Nico and Bella

Maya is nice to.

Do you have to worry so much about individuality when its boy/girl? Nico and Cleo is cool. I don't see why they couldn't both have 4 letters (cheaper for personalised stuff too)
Is alliteration out? Nico and Nancy is v cute.

Chryssa (Greek for gold)
Or something plain-sounding like Erin?
