Florence - Would 'Flo' put you off?

Really love Florence but worried that as an adult she would be known as 'Flo'.

Would this put you off?

No it wouldn't as I'd encourage the nickname of Florrie or Flossie/Floss.

John Peel's daughter had the nickname Flossie and I thought it was lovely to hear him speaking about her; it's a very affectionate name.

(and I'm aware it;s not the butchest or strongest of female names but I like it nonetheless!)

Yes. I know two Florences and they both get called Flo by most people.
Personally I hate Flo.

We would use Florie as a child but not sure this would transfer once she becomes a teen/adult.

I'm not a Florence (am one name mentioned here though, you'll never guess which ), but was known as Flo for a while at uni. I'm not anymore my parents have never called me anything other than my real name. Mum said she did worry about me being called Flo at school, but it never happened.

I don't like Flo. Reminds me of Aunt Flo from Bod.

Florence is nice, but seems to be getting used more and more.

Surely she doesn't ever have to be Flo if she doesn't want to be? Can't she just always introduce herself as Florence (or whatever her choice of shortening is)?

My name is 3 syllables and has a very obvious shortening - which nobody ever uses, as I don't like it, I always introduce myself by my full name, and that's what people use.

No, just shorten it to Florrie (or whatever you like) from the start and if people say Flo, just wince and correct them

Florence is a lovely pretty name.

I like Floss, as a nn, as oneofsues has said, it reminds me of John Peel's doughter. Much prefer it to Flo.

Anyhow, when she gets bigger she might like Flo. If she doesnt i'm sure she'll devise her own nn or use her full one.

Hmm, I don't think you can control nn's to be honest. My brother has a long and unusual name, but is known by all is friends by a short nn which my parents hate. Nothing they can do, and he likes it.

If you can't live with Flo, I'd steer clear. It was on our list, but the lack of an obious nn put us off.

That said, I did have a great aunt known as Florrie her whole life, so if the adult like it, it can stick!

The only acceptable nm for me would be Ren or Flor. Anyone calling her anything else would be met with a swift crowbar to the face {wink]
