Alicia? What are your opinions and impressions?

I really like Florence but when I told my friends I was mainly met with looks and one friend even asked me if I was serious!

I was also concerned about nicknames when she is an adult as I'm not keen on Flo. As a child we would probably use Florrie but not sure if this is ok for an adult.

So looking for alternitives and heard Alicia last night on the TV. Really like it, hadn't considered it before and it goes well with surname.

But we have an Eva and not sure if Alicia makes Eva sound like a hard name?

What are your opinions/impressions of Alicia and does it go with Eva?

Alicia is OK, but I prefer Alice and think it goes better with Eva. Florence is a lovely name too

Love it. There was a character in Mallory Towers called Alicia; I think she was a bit naughty but clever. A jolly hockey-sticks name, I think. Along the lines of Gillian, Fiona and Rebecca.
Also really like Florence. I know a few young and old but none inbetween. They seem to always end up with the nickname Flo, but I love that too. Ignore your friends.

I like both Alicia and Florence, altho I have a sneaking suspicion Florence is creeping up in popularity (based on how many I keep coming across in the past year).

debaronz's suggestion of Alice is a good one - goes v well with Eva.

I think it is very nice (but I think Alice is even nicer) Also there can be some confusion about how it is pronounced - for me it is A-LISS-ee-uh but lots of people seem to pronounce it Aleesha, which I don't think is as pretty.

I love it when it's pronounced Al-iss-ee-a, but it's becoming more common to pronounce it Al-ee-sha, which is not so lovely imo. Florence is fab.

Florence is lovely and Alicia is lovely too. I am a fan of Alice too.
How would you pronounce Alicia? I have known two, one pronounced it Aleesha and one pronounced it Alissia.

I do like Alicia too, but like pp i would pronounce it a-liss-ee-a not aleesha.

Depends how it's pronounced.

Al-LISS-ee-a is correct, and very nice.

Al-eesha is wrong and horrid.

I have an Alicia (Al-LISS-ee-a ).

It does occasionally get mispronounced! But otherwise lovely, & fewer of them about than Alice.

Dd1 is often called Ali, which goes well with Eva too.

Lovely, much nicer than Florence, imo. And it goes well with Eva (also lovely).

I'd not personally choose two names that sound so similar, so prefer Alice with Eva. I thought that Florence had been popular for a while.

I like Alicia but think Alice sounds better with Eva. Also like Florence, with Flo for short.

Have to confess I misread this thread title (it's early) and thought it said Africa. I was about to jump on with FGS don't call your child Africa!
I love both those names. I had a friend called Alicia at school, she was beautiful. Also had a lovely, bright Florence in my class years ago.

BUT it will cause a minefield of pronunciation problems. I would pronounce it Aliss-i-a, or A-lee-see-a. Many many people pronounce it 'Aleeesha' which I hate.
