3wks to go still no name!

3 weeks to go until due date (although son was 3 weeks early) and our baby girl is still without a name. We've changed our mind on a weekly basis. We have a son, Robert and our surname starts with B.

I like traditional names that aren't too popular but are classic and timeless.

Hubby loves Elizabeth, but it's too popular around here now, lots of lizzies and libbys at nursery and the play gyms

opinions please.....

Elspeth / Bettany
Beatrix/Beatrice/Bella (then BB for nickname and initials)

I wouldn't worry too much. We didn't really have a name for dd until after we saw her.

Elizabeth is perfectly nice - I don't know how popular it is now but I know a lot of adult ones. HOw about Eliza?

I really like Genevieve, Alice, May, Annabelle, Thea, Charlotte - can't think of any more off the top

Oh Elspeth is lovely!

GladioliBuckets · 19/04/2010 10:09

And Elizabeth has loads of nicknames - Betty, Betsy, Beth, Bess, Liesl, Liza, Lysette, Sissy...

You may find a name that suits her perfectley once she is born. WIth two of mine we changed our name choices after they were born.

Elizabeth is a lovely name

If you love Elizabeth too then go for it but only if:

a) You love one of the shortened versions too, as chances are that's what she'll mostly be called rather than Elizabeth. See babynamesworld.parentsconnect.com/forum/topic51413.html for some weird and wonderful options!

b) You can agree with your DH what the shortened version will be - there was a recent thread on here where the mother wanted Betty and father wanted Lizzy but they hadn't realised that until after their DC was born and named.

I love Elizabeth too for all the reasons above

But what about :

Lydia
Margaret (Maggie/Peggy as nn)
Hannah
Nathalie
Christina

I'm biased because I have an Elizabeth, and we don't know any others... I'd say if you love the name, go with it. You don't have to shorten it - we don't. For dd#3 we're thinking of maybe Sarah...

By the way, with ds we couldn't decide on a name, and had a short-list of four. We decided to trial each name for half a day (just between the two of us, didn't tell anyone else) and it was a briliant exercise, as the name that was top of my list didn't really 'suit' at all, and we ended up using the name that neither of us had at the top of the list but it ended up being perfect for him. Don't rush the process - it is really important that you feel happy with your choice.
