Hi all,

my OH and I would really value your opinions on our short list of girls names: we don't have long left to decide!!

I'd love your gut reactions to:
Bonnie (too girly for when they are older?)
Meredith
Verity

Thank you all very much!!

I love the name Bonnie.

Meredith and Verity not keen on.

BuzzingNoise · 15/04/2010 11:08

I don't like Bonnie. It's really only good for a hairy doggie. I'm not keen on Verity - too snotty, if you know what I mean!!
Meredith is my choice out of the three.

Dumbledoresgirl · 15/04/2010 11:09

Bonnie - a name for a golden retriever dog. Also, a bit lacking in class imo.

Meredith - I like and have considered using myself. I think my only objection is the presence of Edith in the name which I don't like. But Merry for short would be lovely for a little girl (and hopefully apt).

Verity - adore. If I had a daughter now, it would be the name I would use.

Kneazle · 15/04/2010 11:21

Verity - its lovely.

twolittlemonkeys · 15/04/2010 11:23

I love Meredith and hope to use that name if we have a girl, with Merry as nn. All hypothetical, not even pg yet (testing on Sunday if no AF though!)

twolittlemonkeys · 15/04/2010 11:23

BTW I do like Verity too, but not Bonnie

NorbertDentressangle · 15/04/2010 11:29

Bonnie -no. Makes me think of that awful child-star Bonnie Langford or a dog.

Meredith -another no. To me its one of those surnames used as a first name names like Mackenzie.

Verity -love it.

5DollarShake · 15/04/2010 11:30

Bonnie reminds me of the little girl in Gone with the Wind which is probably why I like it. Although she was a spoilt brat and came to a tragic end. Maybe not such a good choice...

Tortington · 15/04/2010 11:32

bonnie is a euphamism for fat.

if someone says you look bonny, it means you look pretty but your fat.

custy - am going to punch the next person that says my DD is bonnie then!!

Bonnie - please no
Meredith - nice
Verity - ok

cyteen · 15/04/2010 13:32

Bonnie - Langford (or Tyler, both eeksome)
Meredith - gorgeous, has long been on my list
Verity - ditto, although I think it may be getting quite popular now. Among MNers anyway.

mathanxiety · 15/04/2010 15:28

I like Bonnie a lot. (Bonnie Blair)

Really don't like Meredith or Verity.

Lionstar · 15/04/2010 15:32

My Mum is a Bonnie, and it suits her, so not just a childs name

Like Meredith too

GladioliBuckets · 15/04/2010 15:41

Meredith is the nicest imo.

AllieW · 15/04/2010 16:59

Bonnie is nice, but it's a nn for Bronwen, if I recall correctly. Unfortunately I do tend to think of the Blue Peter dog, but I doubt that will be a reference for her peers!

Not keen on Meredith.

Verity is very pretty.

Bonita song.

Lovethesea · 15/04/2010 21:29

Bonnie - Don't like this, sounds like a nn and is a bit of a cute name for me, like calling someone Darling or Dearie.

Meredith - I like this.

Verity - Not my taste, too posh and straightlaced somehow.

whywhywhydelilah · 15/04/2010 23:03

I knew someone called Bonnie and she actually hated her name so much that she legally changed her name when she was old enough by swapping her surname and middle name around. I really like Meredith though.

malimyan · 16/04/2010 12:48

Thanks for all the feedback - very helpful indeed! Any more comments?

Love Verity, Bonnie is ok but Meredith is appalling! It's quite possibly one of the ugliest names going. Really, there are so many gorgeous names out there...

muminthemiddle · 16/04/2010 23:27

Out of the 3 I like Meredith best.
Bonnie I think you have to be carefule with, there is nothing wrong with it but it does imply that your child is well.. bonny! as in pretty. Hope that makes sense.

dolphina78 · 18/04/2010 20:24

I love Verity and wanted it if we have a girl but DH doesn't! So back to the drawing board for us. Got no issue with a boys name, why is a girl's name so much harder?!

I find there are some good names people have decided to call their dog which is a real shame as would never call our child if I know a dog has that name!
