use a name that you loved but revealed to someone else who has now stolen it and is due before me?? my own fault for saying really, but she had already chosen her names for her little boy (spencer, jayden) and now has announced to everyone that she is going to call her little boy finlay...which is what i told her i was calling my baby boy....would u still use the name? im a bit annoyed esp as spencer and jayden are nowhere near similar to finlay imo...

It's a difficult one but I think I would still use it if you love the name. Cahnces are you/or her will change jobs soon enough and it wont be an issue.

thank you everyone for ur support and advice...i will use the name, i love it and i chose it so why the hell not!! thank you all again, i know it seems really petty to worry over but iv found names really hard to chose particularly as i am the most indecisive person in the world!! happy now and heard his heartbeat this morning too

My mother would say "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". Just a thought.

Definitely use it. The only people that would stop me using a name (and did!) is family, because you're stuck with them. Friends and colleagues come and go and your son will be Finlay long after she's a distant memory.

Rockbird · 09/04/2010 19:47

Having said that though, I wouldn't be above chucking another name out into the mix to see if she bites Tell her you're thinking of Kenneth or something as retro names are all the rage. She might surprise you

happycamper - so, so, true!!

rockbird - you too are spot on!! thank you for your words of wisdom. think i may chuck in some really random names see if it makes a difference!! some people are easily led, a shame that she hasnt got her own imagination. i love the name Finlay because I chose it and believe it or not I dont know any Finlay's (and I'm a student primary teacher!!).

Thank you everyone again for all of ur advice, his name is finally chosen and I'm not telling ANYONE!!
