Do our names determine our personalities?

What do you think? My DD is called Francesca because I wanted her to be a very girly princess type and she is!! And how much does a persons name influence what we think of them? Are all Josh's naughty in school? Oh so many questions in my head............!

No

she is a princessy girl because that's how you treat her

IReadCookeryBooksInBed · 07/04/2010 17:17

My name means 'pure' and I am

FrazzleRock · 07/04/2010 17:19

My name means 'bitter' and I am

kimbles1984 · 07/04/2010 17:23

i know a naughty josh

my eldest is Aidan and is impulsive, strong willed and noisy!

my youngest is Macauley and is sunny and angelic

not sure what personalitys would be expected with those names though!

lifeas3plus1 · 07/04/2010 17:32

Someone on here once said that my Ds's name was a "Weak" boy's name. He is most certainly not weak.

In fact he sounds pretty much the same as kimbles1984 son Aiden.

He is very well behaved though, Well as much as a 1yr old can be which is also surprising seen as though he apparently has a "naughty boy's" name too

My name means "Treeless Plain". Well I'm pretty sure that I am treeless!

The only Francesca I know is an arty bisexual.

irisblue · 07/04/2010 17:56

Not at all. I know lots of people who share a name, but have completely different personalities...I think it's how you treat a child and raise it (plus genes) that determine it's personality

irisblue · 07/04/2010 17:58

ps - the three Francescas I know aren't princessy at all! One is very down-to-earth and quite tomboyish, one is quite hippy (and a bit pretentious) and the other is shy and sweet, but not overly girly! They're all in their 20s/30s..

Blackpuddingandpeapuree · 07/04/2010 18:05

My first name is considered naff these days, it was posh when I was growing up and not many around. Nowadays it has been in every soap!

Here I am with dh, I am cool me you know what I mean aint it.

Blackpuddingandpeapuree · 07/04/2010 18:07

I have yet to meet a nasty Emma. They are invariably lovely, friendly, outgoing people.

brightyoungthing · 07/04/2010 19:20

My name means pure too!!! And I like to think I am! I do treat her like a princess I suppose, but would she be the same if I named her Gertrude I wonder?? CuppaTeaJanice, I know a really nasty Emma but a couple of lovely ones too. Every Sam I know is really outgoing and confident and I really do know a woman called Muff! God knows what her name says about her!!

Lockets - my gran is called Kitty and I love the name, would have considered it if DS had been a girl.

Wanderingsheep · 07/04/2010 19:48

I think my name means Warrior or something like that. I'm not remotely warriorish!

pointydog · 07/04/2010 19:52

I don't think a name influences anyone very much at all.
