I quite like it. I think its the nn of Amanda Holden's daughter.

plonker · 05/04/2010 23:21

It's an ok name. I don't love it but I don't hate it.

I love Alexandra

Lora69 · 05/04/2010 23:21

In a word, Yes :S

juneybean · 05/04/2010 23:26

I like it but I'd have Alexa/Alexis/Alexandra first and foremost with Lexie/Lexi as a nickname

When i think of this name, I think of the child of a rich builder whose mum does shopping for a hobby.

foxyD · 06/04/2010 15:44

I would have to agree with puffling i'm afraid

noddyholder · 06/04/2010 15:45

I love it sounds like a showgirl!

5DollarShake · 06/04/2010 15:47

Ooh, puffling - well described! I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but that is the connotation I get, too.

I prefer the nn Alex for Alexandra / Alexa, etc. But it's all personal taste.

Bert2e · 06/04/2010 15:52

Sorry - chavvy.

thedollshouse · 06/04/2010 15:54

I don't think it is chavvy but I had never heard of it until Amanda Holden gave it as a nn for her dd and I would hate to copy a z list celebrity.

legscrossed · 06/04/2010 15:59

love it...

but apparently v common

bit like evey ava etc at the mo

5inthebed · 06/04/2010 16:00

I like it, was on my list if DS3 was a girl. I like it as a nickname to Alexandra.

DastardlyandSmugly · 06/04/2010 16:01

I think Alex Curran and Steven Gerrard have used it as the name for one of their daughters too.

dizzydixies · 06/04/2010 16:24

will you STOP using the fecking word chavvy on the baby names threads ffs

no,I don't think its chavvy. regardless of Amanda Holden - who has Alexa known as Lexi and Alex Curran who has one it is also the name of David Bowie's daughter, full name Alexandria

our DD2 is Alexandra known as Lexie and I know of 2 others, it has become more common and was the fastest growing girls name last year apparently however I have loved it for years and had never heard of another until recently.

cinnamongreyhound · 06/04/2010 18:12

I don't think it's Chavvy but it is quite common at the moment for both boys and girls, I know a lot but really like it. I'm not a big fan of giving children one name and then only using the shortened one though, so would suggest just using Lexie. My stepson is called Alexander but has only ever been called Alex, he very upset when he started school and no-one told him he had an 'ander' on the end of his name! He is sometimes called Lexie by his mum too but no-one else.

ilovesprouts · 06/04/2010 18:22

my friends got a niece called lexi it a pretty name chavvy NO

It's a very nice nickname, but it's not something to put on a birth certificate. I'd say it fails the posh job test - it's not a plausible name for the British Ambassador for the UN or whatever she ends up being (but I know I am very very prescriptive about giving children "proper names" rather than nicknames).
