What do you think when you hear the name Emmanuelle?

My DH, who is 15 years older than me, won't allow it if we ever have a girl (currently working on no.1 who is a boy, phew). But I love it. Lots of nice nicknames too.

Only people of a 'certain age' (including mine) would think of porn. Like most associations, it will die off.

I know a 3-year-old Emmanuella (spelled right?) - so ending in 'ah'. It's a bit of a mouthful, but a pretty name for pretty half Italian half British girl.

I think it's not uncommon in Italy.

Weren't those porn films made about three decades ago anyway?

tis a shame cos its a lovely name but instantly think of porn.

youd get the same with lolita. name seems forever sullied by dodgy connotations.

yes the soft porn films but .... I used to work for a French company and at the head office in Paris there were three women called Emmanuelle working there - I think it's (or was) quite a popular name in France

Emmanuel for a boy is very popular among black and caribbean communities in London. I know an Emmanuel who is known as Manny.
I quite like Emmanuelle and hadn't heard of the associated porn!

I instantly think porn too. It was very famous at the time. How old are you OP? I'm 43 and have never seen the film. I think you'd have a long wait if you waited until everyone over forty died off!

I'm 36, and it's way beyond my time, but my DH is 51 and his first reaction was "porn -- no way"! Pretty much like everyone else's actually.

Lolita would probably be worse, but not much!
