What do you think of Rufus as a boy's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

It's a name that sort of grows on me. It does make me think of this: www.essortment.com/all/williamrufuswil_rhcz.htm and also Whistling Rufus www.essortment.com/all/williamrufuswil_rhcz.htm. Incidentally, I only knew the latter as an instrumental, but googling suggests it has some rather racist lyrics. Not that many folk would make the connection, I wouldn't have thought.

Very popular where I live.

It's quite nice but a bit predictable with the trying to be different naming trend at the moment.

It rhymes with doofus. Maybe not an issue here in the UK but as an immature Canadian, it tickles my funnybone!

Love it, I have one. Also have another dog's name for DS1! They are the only ones around here too, I haven't heard of any other boys named Rufus.

StrictlyKatty · 01/04/2010 13:11

Is the other one Bruno?

I love that name, DH was again HORRIFIED! Screaming 'Dog's name' for hours

MyBoysHaveDogsNames · 01/04/2010 13:40

Not Bruno, but it has been mentioned on this thread! I do feel a bit dogowner like when I have to call DS1 across the playground. And when my DS2 is older and I have to call them both, I'm sure I'll feel a bit of a plonker.

I do like Bruno although it does have connotations to me of Strictly Come Dancing!

OOOh I hope it's Rex, Rufus and Rex sound super together

vickyob · 01/04/2010 18:47

I think it is a dogs name but I LOVE it. my dog was called Jonny and 2 of mine have a 'cat' or 'dog' name so never mind.
