Henry Shailes

Joseph Shailes (Joe/Joey)

George Shailes (OH doesnt like, and the ge and sh sounds too similar?)

Benjamin Shailes (cant have, say name aloud it sounds like 'minge'!! Like Ben Shailes though. Maybe Reuben?)

Oliver Shailes (but we have a neice Olivia)

Charlie Shailes

Parker Shailes

Clark Shailes

Sebastian Shailes (Seb)

Jonathan Shailes (Jonny)

Edward Shailes

Arthur Shailes (Art/Arty)

Henry, Arthur and Sebastian are my favourites.

If you like Ben, but dislike Benjamin, how about Benedict?

Lora69 · 29/03/2010 19:02

Thanks, Henry is very very high up there for my too, and Sebastian is definitely growing higher-had great feedback on that one-I really dont like Benedict tho but thanks!

ps Say Benjamin Shailes aloud- can you hear 'minge'??

cece · 29/03/2010 19:04

You have my DS name on your list with the same nn we use.

cece · 29/03/2010 19:05

BTW please don't use Joey. People of a certain age will know what I mean...

Lora69 · 29/03/2010 19:06

ooh cece, which is your sons name?!
Does Joey mean willy or similar?!

OP posts:
DramaInPyjamas · 29/03/2010 19:09

I hear the minge!

..My personal favourites on your list are:

Rafferty
Noah
Parker

AllieW · 29/03/2010 19:11

Lora69 I think cece is referring to Joey Deacon, a disabled lad who appeared on Blue Peter and was mocked mercilessly by the nation's children as a result. I think it reflected rather more badly on them, frankly. I also think that people are more likely to associate it with the Friends' character now.

skidoodly · 29/03/2010 19:11

I don't hear the minge!

Sebastian Shailes sounds the best to my ears.

I agree with your OH about George Shailes.

cece · 29/03/2010 19:13

Like allie said but personally I wouldn't use it because of it.

I have a Jonathan (Jonny). We have never met another Jonny under the age of 30 btw.

Lora69 · 29/03/2010 19:14

oh no, the dreaded minge! so its not just in my imagination! dammit!

ok, i used to love noah but have been put off by a) recent rapid rise in popularity and B) someone said my surname is a bit like snailes, and what with the animals on noah's ark and all he may get teased! No snailes?!

Parker i love and would really suit little one, only thing with that is that we both have fairly long noses so he may get 'Nosy Parker'! Or just plain Nosy! such a shame xx

MrsJohnDeere · 29/03/2010 19:16

Henry
Sebastian
Edward

are my faves.

Lora69 · 29/03/2010 19:18

I would think most people I mingle with would think of Friends too (I'm 25) so that doesnt put me off.

Jonathan is strong and sensible but boyish too, whilst Jonny is cute so nice combo

The alliteration works quite nicely for Sebastian Shailes doesnt it?

I'm just wondering how many other people would hear the minge if i didnt mention it?! I said it to my mum and she said 'oh yeah- Now i hear it!' DAMMIT!!

Zachary (Zack) -- Love
Rafferty (Raff) -- No. Rafferty sounds like Riff Raff to me. I much prefer Raftery
Noah -- the snails thing is a bit of a stretch, imo. But I think Noah is a bit wet all the same
Henry -- LOVE
Joseph -- I usually love Joseph, but I don't like it so much with Shailes
George -- agree with your DH about the G and the SH
Ben -- like, how about Benedict?
Reuben -- ok
Rupert -- too poncy
Oliver -- nice; is Olivia's nn Ollie though?
Charlie -- nice
Parker -- Way too surname-y
Clark -- too Batman, or Spiderman or whatever Clark Kent was
Sebastian -- I really don't like Seb as a nn. It sounds like a dermatological problem
Jonathan -- LOVE
Edward -- Like
Arthur -- meh
Jacob -- Nice

Basically, I love Henry and Jonathan (Jonny). I think the N sounds give the softer surname a bit of heft.

mathanxiety · 29/03/2010 21:38

And Zachary too. The Z and K sounds are very solid.

lifeas3plus1 · 31/03/2010 09:15

Only one's I like are Noah and Jacob.

Lora69 · 31/03/2010 14:31

Thing that puts me off Jacob is OH is very tall and slim, so my boy may get teased as Jake the Rake?!!
