Spelling of Alistair

Alistair or Alastair? Or is there another spelling you prefer?

there used to be a sketch on Absolutely with a guy called Alaisdair... D A I R spelling out the end of his name.

I would spell it Alistair, but it's each to their own really. It's a name I love but DH doesn't like it much so we've had to forget about it.

I went to school with a boy, who, when asked his name, always said. "Alisdair with a D." From P1 until S6 - and he's probably still saying it now!

I have seen it spelt Alister as well.

It is a nice name but a minefield from a spelling perspective.

My preference would be Alistair.

My BIL is an Alister.

I like Alistair best of all the possible spellings. I have an Alister in my family but DS has Alistair as a middle name.

Alasdair preferably or if not Alastair.

The name is lovely but I agree a minefield from the different spelling perspective.

Alasdair or Alastair both equally acceptable IMO(Scottish).

However it's spelled, I can't stand when people pronounce it like "Alice Stare".

BTW, Despite the consensus here, I never saw it as "Alis...." (with an I after the first A) when growing up in Scotland. And it is a Scottish name.

was just curious about what other people thought--we went with Alistair, but I was wanting Alastair for almost the whole pregnancy. My husband and his family were persuasive though and the i won in the end.

My dh is Alasdair after Sgurr Alasdair on the Isle of Skye.

Dizzy I think Billy Connolly did something too... maybe Absolutely stole/deveeloped the idea?

Our Alasdair is also Alasdair after Sgurr Alasdair on the Isle of Skye. Alasdair seems the most authentic Scottish spelling. Alastair or Alistair OK but Alister just seems plain wrong phonetic spelling.

My brother's name is Alistair... he spells it Al.

DN is Alasdair, but known as Al (Scotland). His Mum said they had a nightmare choosing the spelling.
