The Importance of Being......
Fastest Milkman In The West......

Not for me but if YOU like it and it goes with your surname etc why the flippety flip not?

Pasiphae · 12/03/2010 13:23

Not my cup of tea.
Old man in a flat cap with hairy ears.

LetThereBeRock · 12/03/2010 13:28

Awful.

deaddei · 12/03/2010 13:31

NO!!!
My head teacher was called Ernest Smelt. What a combination.

tummytickler · 12/03/2010 13:48

Love it!

DastardlyandSmugly · 12/03/2010 14:42

I like it too.

MamaLazarou · 12/03/2010 15:48

Great name.

meaniebrown · 13/03/2010 06:19

love it. it was on my list before dh vetoed it.

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 13/03/2010 07:38

I love it but the I am biased as it is one of DC3's names

piscesmoon · 13/03/2010 07:43

Absolutely dreadful! It is a family name in my family, but there is no way I would inflict it-even as a second name. Dire!

whyme2 · 13/03/2010 07:53

oh Mrs Gok - my dc is also an Ernest/Ernie.

We did get some negative reactions at first but the name really suits him and everyone loves it now.

We did get one GP confused when they phoned to speak to Ernest expecting to speak to an older man and I said hello I'm his mum. He was only a few months old at the time.

whyme2 · 13/03/2010 07:53

that is dc 3.

piscesmoon · 13/03/2010 08:14

It is OK if they can carry it off, but I would have thought it very difficult if they are a shy, spotty, teenager who wants to impress a girl and they have to introduce themselves as Ernest or Ernie-they are onto a loser from the start. OK if they are a handsome, self confident hunk! Unfortunately you can't tell, at the baby stage, how they will turn out.

MrsGokWantsatidyhouse · 13/03/2010 09:50

That is why my DC have 3 names each, they can choose which one they want to use as they get older

persephonesnape · 13/03/2010 10:02

ds1s middle name. love it! (he could carry it off as a 1st name as well though...)

lovechoc · 19/03/2010 15:05

I feel sorry for the child before they've even set foot in school if they are called this. Can you imagine the ridicule they would have to endure? Not to my taste, sorry.

Maggie00 · 19/03/2010 20:45

It must be coming back into fashion. I think a few years ago I would have laughed at the suggestion, but it sounds ok now. The only thing is, Ernie reminds me of Benny Hill's song. 'and he drove the fastest milk truck in the west. URneeeeee'

ellesabe · 23/03/2010 16:50

I love Ernie

AllieW · 24/03/2010 19:09

Well, if names like Stanley and so on can come back, I don't see why not. And there's always Ernie Wise.
