What do you think of Cleo?

...middle name would be Helena. Nixed the MN as a first due to pronunciation issues - DH loves He-lay-na but hates Hell-en-a.

The other name that was in the running was Evelyn, but again pronunciation issues arose (like Ev-e-lyn, but Eve-lyn doesn't flow with our last name). Also think the nn Evie is too ubiquitous now.

Baby is due any day so any input greatly appreciated!

I love Cleo, was going to use it as a nn for Clementine as all my girls have long first names shortened to something. DH couldn't see past his first car which was a renualt Clio though

Helena is gorgeous, could you use it as first name and have Nell as a nn which would cut out the pn debate?!

good luck

ChoreDodger · 03/03/2010 08:35

I love it. I'd use it as a nick name for Claudia as I don't like Clementine, but Clio or Cleo is lovely.

AnnaSceptic · 03/03/2010 08:57

Gorgeous. Was on list for DD.

robino · 03/03/2010 08:59

Gorgeous. The muse of history IIRC

BessieBoots · 03/03/2010 09:00

So nice. Cute for a baby, sophisticated for a grown up.

dizzydixies · 03/03/2010 09:05

I thought clementine to Cleo was a stretch of the imagination but Claudia to Cleo is further

AllieW · 03/03/2010 17:38

I'm sorry, but for me it is either a singer (Cleo Laine) or a cat. I can't see it working on an ordinary child.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 03/03/2010 17:42

Nice. I like ^ChoreDodger's suggestion though. Claudia is a gorgeous name - Cleo is a bit nick-namish, to me.

mathanxiety · 03/03/2010 19:07

Lovely name, very nice with Helena as a mn. Have you considered He-lee-na as a pronunciation of Helena?

henry37 · 04/03/2010 11:54

sorry i dont like it.

CaptianPicardsPineapple · 04/03/2010 11:55

I like it, pretty.

stanausauruswrecks · 04/03/2010 12:11

I love it- but then DD is a Cleo!

SweetnessAndShite · 04/03/2010 12:19

I love it too and would have pitched for it to DH if I'd've had a girl. I was slightly concerned by the Pelvic Floor Excercise Machine with the same name though.

MrsNetz · 04/03/2010 12:21

lovely

donttrythisathome · 04/03/2010 12:27

I love it - but DH also said it reminded him of the Clio car, so he no likee. So what though - go for it!

RubiMama · 04/03/2010 14:49

I really liked this name for DC1 but I was worried everyone would think 'car'. Judging from posts so far though, maybe that's not the case...

frogetyfrog · 04/03/2010 14:51

I would immediately think of a car. Or a cat.

frogetyfrog · 04/03/2010 14:52

oops cross post. I did think car before seeing your post now.

MrsCadwallader · 05/03/2010 05:25

Ummm, it's a dog's name.... sorry

tortoiseonthehalfshell · 05/03/2010 05:43

I like it. I associate it with cats, a bit, probably because of the Cleopatra connection, but I do like it.

And Helena works beautifully as a middle. I tried it out, and as a first name I say Hell-e-na, but when I say Cleo Helena, it turns into your DH's preferred pronunciation. So I think it's an excellent choice.

Fourleaf · 05/03/2010 09:14

Love it - was thinking of it for DS had he been DD. Defo not a dog's name in my mind - but when I mentioned it people tended to think of the car... not really a big problem though in my opinion.

Sadly I can't have Cleo now as DS is Leo...!

littlemissm · 05/03/2010 18:42

RHL · 05/03/2010 21:09
