Can Betty be a nickname for anything other than Elizabeth?

Or perhaps Bettina, which I really like

I think Betty is a really cute name, but not keen on Elizabeth.

I know a small Bethany who is known as Betty.

I like it but then I like her so maybe there's a connection.

MrsKitty · 28/02/2010 22:48

BanquoGhost · 28/02/2010 22:49

My Aunt Bette's name was Rebecca. No idea why she called herself Bette.

RhodaMorgenstern · 28/02/2010 23:34

I know a Betty whose full name is Betul (Turkish in origin I believe and I think you're suppposed to have an accent over the 'u'). She is very attractive, not a hint of a moustache but she does drink/smoke a lot.

scottishmummy · 28/02/2010 23:55

RedbinDippers · 28/02/2010 23:59

Betty is short for Bethilda.

LaRagazzaInglese · 01/03/2010 00:08

smileypigface · 01/03/2010 10:37

I used to know a Bettina - who used Betsy as a nickname - I quite like that

victoriascrumptious · 01/03/2010 10:46

I think Betty is lovely on it's own.

kando · 01/03/2010 10:48

scottishmummy - you must have met my betty then, she's doing well for a 4 year old

kando · 01/03/2010 10:51

[disclaimer: my betty does not smoke tabs but does drink a lot - of milk and apple juice that is!]

Obviously, I love the name Betty. My dd is actually Elizabeth but is more often than not called Betty. (FWIW, I wasn't too keen on Elizabeth either but the other 2 dds and dh won! It's grown on me, but I much prefer the spelling "Elisabeth".)
