For a middle name do you prefer Aurora, Aurelia or Andromeda or a similar alternative?

Oh, I love Anathema! Her brother is called Heretic!

overmydeadbody · 28/02/2010 12:34

Andromeda is cool

With a background in astronomy I probably wouldn't go with Andromeda or even Aurora as a name - just seems a bit weird (no offense - honest). Aurelia reminds me of something but can't remember what - a film or something. Was there one in Love/Actually?

I love Anna; I want it for my second dd's name. Did someone already suggest Aphrodite? Now there's a story...

[[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Andromeda_Strain the Andromeda Strain] - why I wouldn't use the name.

thumbwitch · 28/02/2010 12:45

whoops try again

foreverastudent · 28/02/2010 13:04

To KerryMumbles does it really matter if a name's a bit out there if it's only a middle name?

I like Andromeda.

janeite · 28/02/2010 13:26

Andromeda is terrible. Aurora is okay. Dawn is better.

pointysayhiphip · 28/02/2010 17:28

Agree. Dawn is a lovely word

AppleAndBlackberry · 28/02/2010 17:30

I love Aurelia and also Aurelie

crankytwanky · 28/02/2010 17:58

Love 'em all.
But I would.

I've actually suggested Aurelia to DH, who said it was a possible goer.

Aurora does remind me of Sleeping Beauty.

Zora is Arabic for dawn, if it helps.

GladioliBuckets · 28/02/2010 19:44

I find Aurora quite unpleasant to say out loud for some reason. Plus what if she had a Jonathan Ross problem? Andromeda is too apolcalyptic.

How about Astrid? Or Estrella? (Spanish for star)

belgo · 01/03/2010 07:51

I just fine Aurora impossible to say out loud, despite years of speech therapy as a child.

pointysayhiphip · 01/03/2010 19:01

agreed, Aurora might look nice but it's a bugger to say. Hence Dawn

foreverastudent · 01/03/2010 20:10

My DP thinks Dawn sounds like a boy's name!

I wouldn't go for Aurora. It's asking for a child who can't say their R's

Andromeda makes me think of a camel (dromedary) or Titus Andronica (very bloody Shakespeare play).

I guess you could go for Aurelia at a push. But it is a mite precious.

Adair · 01/03/2010 20:36

love all (though don't know the story of Andromeda)

My dd is Aphra (after Aphra Behn), sometimes think we could have called her Astra (Aphra Behn's other name). Love Ariadne and Aviva.

ellesabe · 03/03/2010 19:54

Andromeda sounds like something from Star Trek in my opinion!

allyfe · 08/03/2010 20:38

I love Aurora but I know it isn't everyone's cup of tea. I prefer Aurelie to Aurelia.

LadyCressida · 09/03/2010 18:27

I like all of them They are unusual but I think that's the point of middle names - being able to go with something you're not quite brave enough to put as a first name!

Depends what it's following though as to what sounds best - what's the first name? (sorry if you've already said somewhere and I just missed it...)
