I love Florence, but find Amelie very faddy.

Are you Welsh/in Wales? If so, then your boy's name is fine. If not, you might spend all your time teaching people how to say it. I don't like Miles.

notsoteenagemum · 27/02/2010 10:01

I like Amelie Florence but prefer Florence Amelie Johnson,
I like Iestyn Miles but for Bucharests reason would go Miles Iestyn.

ellesabe · 27/02/2010 10:13

I have never seen the name before and when I saw Iestyn I thought 'Einstein'!

menomena · 27/02/2010 19:59

Nice name for a girl but Iestyn would get some raised eyebrows! Don't think I've ever seen it before and wouldn't know how to pronounce it. Miles is nice so I would just flip that to the front.

weepootle · 27/02/2010 20:02

I prefer Amelia to Amelie but love Florence.

I've seen Iestyn before but don't know how to pronounce it. Really dislike Miles.

lifeas3plus1 · 27/02/2010 20:16

I prefer Florence Amelie. Florence is just such a lovely name.

No Idea how to pronounce Iestyn but I really dislake Miles.

lifeas3plus1 · 27/02/2010 20:16

dislike not dislake lol.

Nevergoogledragonbutter · 27/02/2010 20:18

I would go for Florence and Iestyn.

I know a little Iestyn, it's a lovely name.

nancydrewrocks · 27/02/2010 20:20

I like Florence a lot but find Amelie a bit naff/passe if I'm honest.

I have no idea how you pronounce Iestyn - anyone? and not massively keen on Miles.

Ellokitty · 27/02/2010 20:22

I prefer the names the other way round. Florence Amelie is very pretty and less faddy. Miles Iestyn is a pretty cool name too. I'm also unsure on how you'd pronounce Iestyn.

mazzystartled · 27/02/2010 20:26

I love Florence - fab name , but it is going to skyrocket in popularity. It sounds quirky but somehow classic at the moment but may do a Ruby iykwim. Amelie was also very very popular a couple of years ago, so it may date.

Really like Iestyn and Miles.

Maria2007loveshersleep · 27/02/2010 20:28

I very much agree with 'florence amelie' instead of 'amelie florence'. And more generally: I love the name Florence but Amelie (even though pretty) has the problem of being faddy, but that's not necessarily a problem...

I have no idea how iestyn is pronounced. Miles I don't like at all.

Nevergoogledragonbutter · 27/02/2010 20:28

Iestyn is pronounce Yestin i think.

orienteerer · 27/02/2010 20:30

Yes - Florence & Miles
No - Iestyn & Amelie

Skegness · 27/02/2010 20:32

I agree that Florence and Miles would work well as the first names.

ChickenInABasket · 27/02/2010 20:35

Agree that the names sound better the other way round! Florence Amelie and Miles Iestin, lovely.

Please don't call your boy Iestin if you ever plan to live ouside of Wales, DP has a similar name and spends his whole time repeating and spelling his name to people even though it is a lovely name!

llareggub · 27/02/2010 20:39

I love Iestyn. However, I am biased as it is DS1's middle name. I prefer Florence, too.

ChippingIn · 28/02/2010 10:43

I like Amelie but not Florence. I don't like Miles or Iestyn (never seen that before!) - but sadly I don't think any of those names go with your surname

bellissima · 28/02/2010 10:55

Another vote for Florence and Miles.

MrsJohnson · 28/02/2010 13:05

Thanks guys for your comments. Iestyn is pronounced 'Yes-Tin' but I can understand people's comments about it being tricky outside of Wales. We actually live in the North East so could be interesting with a geordie accent lol! But my mum's side of the family is Welsh and I really love it! I think you all might be right about swapping the name round. It's so difficult trying to find names we both like and fitting them with our surname. Especially boys names - we just can't agree!

Iestyn is Welsh for Justin. Pronounced Yestin. Simples1

diddl · 28/02/2010 13:59

A vote for Amelie Florence here.

I prefer Miles or Milo to Iestyn.

Both are very handsome names.

People will quickly get used to Iestyn, if you don't already live in Wales.

ChippingIn · 28/02/2010 20:58

Iestyn really wouldn't be fair in the North East - no amount of 'It's yes-tin' would stop the 'Einstein, who de ye think ye are?'

I really do like Amelie but I think it's better with a 'light' surname and yours is a heavy, solid name... however, the more you say it the more it seems to go, so if you (still) like it...

Boys names - much more difficult aren't they - things that I like with Johnson & Amelie (so you can keep it for if there's a sister to follow or brother after Amelie! LOL)

Ben (though there is a sprinter Ben Johnson)
Lewis
Thomas/Tom
Matthew/Mat
Sam
George

LOL - you've probably already discounted all of these!
