We have chosen Mia (pronounced Mee-ah) and Louis? (As is Louis Armstrong) and had mixed responses. What do you think?

Lovely! Both really nice names.

allaboutme · 26/02/2010 22:01

I know a brother and sister called those!
Good names. Love Louis especially

hf128219 · 26/02/2010 22:07

How else do you pronounce Mia? Confused!

allaboutme · 26/02/2010 22:13

Some are said My-ah
Its been about 50/50 with the ones I've met how they say it

LynetteScavo · 26/02/2010 22:15

I love both names

lowrib · 26/02/2010 22:16

Lovely names, go for it.

Phoenix · 26/02/2010 22:20

Mia can be My-ah.

Lovely names but just be prepared for people to call Louis Lewis. My ds is Lewis and loads of idiots people spell it Louis

hf128219 · 26/02/2010 22:43

Thanks! There aren't that many names with different pronounciations. Or are there??

jellybeans · 26/02/2010 23:23

Love Mia but not that keen on louis, reminds me of Louise, may get lou for short and also people mistake with 'loo-is' or lewis sound.

lwfhthebagpipeplayer · 26/02/2010 23:33

The names of DH and DD. Very good choices.

Maria2007loveshersleep · 27/02/2010 14:31

If I'm honest I don't like Mia. Not so much because it' not a nice name (its ok, personally I don't love it but I'm sure lots of people love it). The reason I don't like it is more that it's ultra trendy with celebrities, lots of them have named their DDs Mia.

Louis I like a lot.

BridesheadRegardless · 27/02/2010 15:50

I agree Mia too 'of the moment', the kind of name that will have a few years at the peak then drop away.

Louis is grgoeus though, very classy. We considered it but didn't use it due to fears of confusion with Lewis which I really didn't like.

lal123 · 27/02/2010 15:53

I like both. DD2 is Maia (pronounced My-ah), I'd always pronounce Mia as Mee-ah

notsoteenagemum · 27/02/2010 15:58

I think Mia is pretty it is popular though round here anyway the popularity is dropping off.
Louis is great, I only know of one.

ShirleyAmbrose · 27/02/2010 18:21

I like both a lot.

Mia / Maia / Mya / Maya etc very popular, but I still think they are nice names and Mee-ah the nicest pronunciation.

Louis (Loo-ee) much nicer than Loo-iss

pagwatch · 27/02/2010 18:41

mine is a Louis and only a couple of twats have ever called him lewis. And he is nearly grown up now

zozzle · 27/02/2010 18:42

Mia is a nice sounding name but in Hebrew I think it means "bitter"!!! (I think it means different things in different languages).

I don't think people consider the meanings of names enough - its always one of the first things I look as I believe its vital - part of a child's identity...

Louis - ok better than Lewis

Mayron · 27/02/2010 18:45

My DD (2.4) is called Maya (pronounced may-ah). Slightly different and perhaps not as popular as Mia.
