I have just come across this pretty name and am thinking of it as a middle name. Off the top of your head, how would you pronounce it?

I know how it is pronounced but want to make sure other people know iykwim.

Thanks

Bumnoise · 26/02/2010 11:11

It's in the family as an alternative spelling to Eleanor though.

El-anna.

displayuntilbestbefore · 26/02/2010 11:19

Is it a version of Elena?
In which case I would say El-ayna.

Or is it El-ahna?

bobblehat · 26/02/2010 11:23

When I saw it on the thread title I would pronounce it el-ay-na, but can also see el-ah-na after reading other posts. Not terribly helpful!

DorotheaPlenticlew · 26/02/2010 11:26

El-ah-na.

I know two people called Elena (El-ay-na), and would automatically think that this is different.

MrsJohnDeere · 26/02/2010 11:39

El-ar-na

weegiemum · 26/02/2010 11:41

Just out of interest - why are people putting an "r" in it when its not in the word?

Bleatblurt · 26/02/2010 11:47

English people do that with loads of words. They are well daft, innit.

SE13Mummy · 26/02/2010 12:05

i-lar-nuh is how I think it would end up being pronounced although as a middle name it won't be a day-to-day issue.

weegiemum · 26/02/2010 12:06

Cos if it actually had an 'r' in it it would be 'Elarna' would it not?

luciemule · 26/02/2010 12:07

either El Arna
or possibly El aina

truthisinthewine · 26/02/2010 12:09

El-arna

Blanchet · 26/02/2010 12:10

plonker · 26/02/2010 12:12

cyteen · 26/02/2010 12:19
