Synaesthesia in names

Perfectly prepared for most people to think I'm loopy, but it's not just a pregnancy thing - i've always associated letters, numbers and names with certain colours. Does anyone else think they have synaesthesia?

I'd really like to know what names people consider to be red!

I think me and DH both have a red name and I want DC to have one too...

I know it sounds bonkers but there you go... there is a chance that someone else synaesthetic might understand!

Yes I have this..! Also have colours for each day of the week and 'see' time in circles rather then a linear line.. so interesting isn't it? I had no idea that not everyone thought this way until a conversation in the pub where i told everyone their name colours...they all looked at me like i was insane.

So.. red names are..

Phillip
James
Matt
Gordon
Robert
David
Mark
Rupert
Harry
Will
Nigel
Lee
Louis

Claire
Caron
Sarah
Rachel
Elizabeth
Harriet
Alison
Joanna
Rebecca

Oh thats interesting they are mostly all very traditional english names. Hm i hope your red names are nicer then mine!

my sons name is Owen, and although i love the colour blue, i decorated his nursery in yellows, and he has lots of yellow tops/ pjs/socks, even a yellow bumbo and a yellow dummy and towles etc

i never liked yellow really as a colour, but now i love it, and it suits him to a T, plus he just looks spot on like an Owen

OTTMummA · 27/02/2010 15:21

also, i see sofia as white too.

mathanxiety · 27/02/2010 19:24

Madeleine is another red name, veering towards pink.

I feel like I've entered some alter reality!!!! . How do you associate a colour with a name????

What colours would my children be? Joseph, Samuel and Isabella?

LadyCressida · 28/02/2010 14:39

Joseph - Green
Samuel - Red
Isabella - Yellow

I can't explain it, sorry!

I would love to experience language this way just for one day!

Anguis · 28/02/2010 16:23

Joseph: browny orange
Samuel: white with greyish tones
Isabella: only very weakly coloured -- watery brown at beginning, then very thinly blackish

mathanxiety · 28/02/2010 18:53

Joseph -- dark green
Samuel -- white
Isabella -- dark fuschia

5DollarShake · 28/02/2010 18:55

Joseph - indigo and green
Samuel - predominantly green with blue tinges
Isabella - white and pink (Isobel is basically just white and Isabelle is white with pink and yellow-ishbhues)

Ok now I know I have entered an altered reality. Bonkers but how lovely to perceive names that way.

Looking at my children I can describe their colours but not by their names lol. I suppose thats a sense of auras????? Looking at them Joseph is a red, Samuel is a bright blue and Bella is aquamarine. But that's an association of their personalities and the colours I associate with their personality traits.

FloraPost · 28/02/2010 20:18

My ultra-rationalist DP thinks I am bonkers for rejecting names for future DC because the colours and textures are no good. He thinks the name/colour think is a subconscious association drawn from experience. I'm sure he's wrong, they just ARE!

Will/William - thick waxy pillar-box red
Richard - velvety burgundy red
Anne (not Ann) - bright, cheap, slightly orangey red

Another one here for Sofia as being white - pearly, with a lilac/blue sheen.

My name is light blue and chalky textured black. Lots of people tell me it's a lovely name, but privately I can't agree because the colours aren't very gorgeous.

mathanxiety · 28/02/2010 21:24

Yes, a pearly white for Sofia . But Sophia is a pearly mauve colour.

yellowflowers · 28/02/2010 22:49

Not read whole thread so sorry if someone has saun this but don't Rufus and Rowan both mean red?

yellowflowers · 28/02/2010 22:52
