for example, a girl named Scarlet or Silver, a boy named Blue or Grey.... any opinions??

(Please be as honest as you like, I have no children and am only posting this out of curiosity)

OP posts:

I like all of those name. Although I would spell it Gray.

RustyBear · 22/02/2010 20:35

Well, DD is Amber, so that's at least one I like....

LynetteScavo · 22/02/2010 20:36

Fine.

Although Orange would be a bit "unusual"

Indigo is lovely.

OTTMummA · 22/02/2010 20:36

i had names picked out before i had any they were:

Jaxson Red
Billie Love
Kahlo James
Tyler Blu

my fav are the colour names
but my DH vittod these and we went with Owen Taylor ( my maiden name and we have no boys with it, so wanted to keep it in family )

DH has said if next one is a boy i can have Tyler Blu

I love most as 2nd names, but like a few as first, ie:

Grey - BOY
Violet - GIRL
Scarlet - GIRL
Jade - GIRL
Rusty - BOY
Rose - Girl

im sure there are loads more, can't think of many boy colours etc.

Some are nice, some aren't.

GrimmaTheNome · 22/02/2010 20:44

I reckon the only 'colour' names which really work are those where the colour is actually named after a thing - Jade, Rose, Violet.

allaboutme · 22/02/2010 20:46

I think they must be becoming more popular. I know a newborn Blue and a newborn Redd!

Clary · 22/02/2010 20:50

I know Amber, Jade, Indigo, Scarlet, Rose (all girls).

All of those seem fine as they are rather unusual colours. I think Brown or Red or Pink would be a bit whacky (as such common words really).

I know a girl called Blue. I think it doesn't sound like a name at all really, sorry.

LynetteScavo · 22/02/2010 21:01

Red for a boy is cool.

OTTMummA · 22/02/2010 21:04

I love the name Baby for a girl, everyone else hates it.

im sure im alone on that one.

AllieW · 22/02/2010 21:05

I like Jade and Rose, but that's about it. I'm not even keen on the ones from other languages: Bianca, Blanche etc.

cookielove · 22/02/2010 21:08

I like Gray for a boy, and Scarlett for a girl.

Kyrie · 22/02/2010 21:26

I like Ruby, Amber, Jade, Coral, Scarlett, Saffron & Violet. More unusual colours definitely work better.

Not keen on colour names for boys.

Maria2007loveshersleep · 22/02/2010 21:42

I hate Blue. Apart from anything else, it has a depressed feel to it. Also, very pretentious. Have never met a 'Blue' in my life (hope I never do ).

Scarlet too strong, has all those Gone with the wind connotations, would need a very glamorous, over the top woman to pull it off. Plus brings to mind Scarlett Johansson, again glamorous / diva / over the top. What if its a sweet, mousy, down to earth girl?

Silver just weird.

I love Amber, Violet, Jade, Coral & Saffron.

Grey for a boy I really don't like.

We met an Indigo in the library a few weeks ago... and I thought my DC had odd names

IsThatTheTime · 22/02/2010 21:58

Love Scarlet, Rose and Violet but I've got a colour in my surname so would sound VERY odd if I went for one of them!

telsa · 22/02/2010 22:08

I know a Crimson - which I think is sweet - though I always think of blushing, going crimson. Lilac could be sweet. Cerise? Mauve? Magenta? Potential is endless.

Eglu · 22/02/2010 22:49

I really like Indigo. It has a nice sound to it

birdofthenorth · 23/02/2010 09:52

Love Indigo. Think in general colour names work better for girls, though I do like Gray/ Grey
