OK ladies, would be grateful for some feedback on the following names. If you could put them in order of preference and add any comments.

Maia (My-uh)
Lydia
Eva
Mila (Me-la)
Anya
Freya
Phoebe
Lauren (DP's choice, I'm not so keen)

PHEW! Oh and if you have any other suggestions, that'd be fab! Btw, I don't like 'poncey' names or 'chavvy' names so if we could stay away from them please. Thanks!

Nice names !

In order:

Lydia
Anya
Maia
Eva (though I think it's fairly common)
Freya (not as pretty as the names above)
Phoebe (bit "posh" for my taste)
Lauren (I used to love it, but Little Britain saw to that ..... - not as classy as the others)

suggestions (though I really like the first three of yours):

Claudia
Serena
Pearl

DDs best friend is a Lydia (love it)and love Eva. Also like Freya and Phoebe.

I agree - go for something straightforward to pronounce and spell as it will get very annoying otherwise!

4sophia · 17/02/2010 17:56

Thanks girls for the quick responses. I was leaning more towards Lydia and Anya and DP liked Maia and Lauren! To me, Lauren sounds quite harsh?! I don't know what it is with it. Might just be me. I tend to prefer more feminine, pretty sounding names.

I was a bit worried about Eva, as I know that there's so many variations ie. Eve, Evie, Eva, Evelyn etc. and so could get quite confusing in a classroom. However, I love the name.

Pixieonaleaf, I have quite an unusual name and have had to correct people frequently. It does get quite frustrating. I know Maia can be spelt Maya as well, however I don't think it looks as pretty and could still be read MAY-UH.

Jamieandhismagictorch, I'm liking Claudia, I'll put that to the DP.

If anybody has anymore ideas/opinions please add to list.

Tell DH that Claudia has the "au" sound he likes

4sophia · 17/02/2010 18:01

Lol, good idea, will do!

starshaker · 17/02/2010 18:01

Why not go for the spelling mia

Rindercella · 17/02/2010 18:03

Anya - love it and will be DD2's middle name when she arrives next month (her first name will be Jasmine)
Eva
Maia
Freya
Lauren
Phoebe
Mila
Lydia (I know this is a really popular name, and it is just because someone I really disliked was called it that it has bad associations for me).

4sophia · 17/02/2010 18:08

I think Mia looks pretty, but apparently that's Mee-uh and I'm really liking My-uh. So I'm thinking that could add to the confusion.

Rindercella - what a fab name! DP's cousin is called Jasmine, v.pretty.

I like Freya, Eva and Maia

PollyTechnique · 17/02/2010 18:30

Lauren (ths would have been a contender for dd but it doesn't go with our surname.)
Eva
Freya
Lydia
Anya

Not too keen on the others.

lisselotte · 17/02/2010 19:52

How about Laurel instead of Lauren- prettier, softer and less dated.

I also like Claudia, Lydia, Maia and Phoebe a lot.

Other suggestions in a similar style (all simple and pretty):

Daphne
Iris
Ruby
Clara
Chloe
Anna
Lily/ Lilia
Thea

Any good?

janeite · 17/02/2010 19:57

Lydia and Eva are nicest imho.

I don't like Maia or Mila.

4sophia · 17/02/2010 20:12

Thanks Lisselotte. Some fab suggestions. I'm particularly loving Clara and Anna. Can't use Lily, as already taken.

Still not convinced on the whole Laurel/Lauren thing. Not sure if I can be convinced, but A+ for effort.

My DD is a Lydia and I still love it.

Claudia is lovely too, that would be my choice if I had a second daughter.

jellybeans · 17/02/2010 20:33

Maia (My-uh) DISLIKE
Lydia REMINDS ME CLAMIDIA, SORRY
Eva LOVE IT
Mila (Me-la)DISLIKE BUT LIKE MYLA (my-la)
Anya DISLIKE, MAKES ME THINK ANAL SOMEHOW
Freya OK
Phoebe OK BUT NOT KEEN PN FEEFEE OR FEE
Lauren BIT BORING

lisselotte · 17/02/2010 20:45

Good- please you like them. Anna and Clara are both so pretty and will never date so really good choices.
Also maybe:
Eliza
Elsa
Juliet
Rosie
Greta

I prefer Eve to Eva personally.....

diddl · 17/02/2010 20:49

Also like My-la.

4sophia · 17/02/2010 20:59

Lisselotte
Eliza - already taken
Elsa - I have a soft spot for this but DP reckons it sounds like a granny name
Juliet - just can't get away from Romeo association
Rosie - too close to my name
Greta - not really me

I also like Eve, but we were planning on having Rose as the middle name (as do what seems like 99% of population now, well not quite, but it's a family name so has meaning to us). Can you think of a second middle name so:

Eve (...........) Rose (Surname - starts with D, 3 syllables)

hester · 17/02/2010 21:03

jellybeans · 17/02/2010 21:32

I also like

Lucinda
Leona
Leah
