is it mean to give a girl Queenie as a middle name?

Really want to honour my great aunt who raised my mum after her mum died so was more like my grandma really.

can't use Queenie as a first name but as a middle name think it could be ok?

Don't even know if we're having a boy or a girl yet so may not even use it..

Top girl choice atm is Matilda so it would be Matilda Queenie Surname.

erm, i don't like it as a name but if it is meaningful then that is different

not a lot of Q names about is there?

I like unusual middle names and it has meaning to you, so I'm in favour. Plus, she will get an intriguing middle initial. Matilda Q. Surname is amazing!

My DS3 would have been Iona Queenie if he'd been a girl, after DH's nan.

My MIL is called Queenie and I think it?s great as a middle name (although not so much as a first). Think she would go mad though as she hates it!

I think it's an awesome name - maybe a bit OTT for a first name but good for a middle name especially if it means something special to you. I think it sounds nice with Matilda as they are both quite old fashioned (in a good way).

I have been told by DH I can only use it if I give birth on the Queen's birthday! (within a week of due date though so not impossible!)

thanks. Yes her actually name was Queen but she was called Queenie. Glad to hear other people have at least heard of it!

btw dd2s middle name is Victoria!

omg, i fcukngi hate that name!!! one of the worst!!

Dulcie sounds like she might lean over and light Queenie's fag for her, in the nursing home... but it's a much nicer name.. wdyt of that?

oh, i'm really sorry. I somehow missed the bit about your great aunt. Do it! You should hear my son's middle name!! But I don't care. I know why his mn is what it is, so who am I to laugh at Queenie... it was the Ruby of its time probably.

don't worry! ordinarily it's not a name I would consider but so miss my aunt. She has missed out on all the children born in our family.. Between me and my sister we have had 4 girls but neither of us have had the front to use it as a name!

If this baby is a girl I think I will go for it.

Oh and Queenie did light plenty of fags

If you have a good reason and tell your child that you chose this special name for them to hold to honour a special lady, they will appreciate it. Besides, I agree, Matilda Q would sound cool. Incidentally, I'd shorten Matilda to Tilda. x

Oooh i love it!

I knew a little old lday called Queenie Plumtree and she was a darling. She was an exquisite, gorgeous, stubborn and frankly mad bean!

Matilda Queenie is simply gorgeous. Having Q as a middle initial - how intriguing? People will ask about it all the time and therefore she will speak about your Aunt!

I love it, think you should definitely go for it.

I do know a 6yo called Queenie Belle. Agree it's a little OTT for a first name but I think with middle names, anything goes really.

I know I'd rather have an unusual middle name than a bog-standard Grace/May/Rose blah blah name.

yes betty my Auntie Queenie was middle name May but I don't want that as a middle name really. Sounds a bit like a western film name! THough dd1 does have grace for middle name though..

I say go for it!!

All my DC's have slightly out there middle names, but they all have a family connection.
I think its lovely to have a meaning to a childs name, but they don't always work as a first name... A perfect compromise

I adore the name Queenie. I have a gorgeous (adult) friend with the name (it's her real first name) and it intrigues people. Lovely as a middle name or first name. Very London!

Feel bad now cos dd1 has Grace as middle name just because I liked it but wouldn't give as a first name in case she didn't turn out 'Grace'ful iyswim.

Dd2 has my sister's name as middle name as she was there at the birth.

Dc3 will now have Queenie if it's a girl or my Dad's name if it's a boy..

THink I need to make a meaningful friendship with a Grace asap

I have a dd with the middle name Queenie (a family name also) and she gets addressed by it more often than her actual first name.
