Hello,

I think we may a short-list (altho DH may well disagree). Would love to hear your comments on these please:

Boys
Caspar

Girls
Aurelia
Undecided about whether to go with OrREELia or OrRAYLia pronunciation
Also, worried if it would be too much of a mouthful with our surname (its double-barrelled but only has three syllables)

Violet
(Bit worried that Violet will become v popular soon)

DS1 is called Felix. And yes, DH has already pointed out my penchant for old cartoon characters' names (Felix the cat and now Caspar the ghost - who was actully 'CaspEr') but really it's just because I think they're lovely names which haven't become popular exactly because most people are scared off by those connotations.

We did have some negative comments (sounds like a cat's name/cat's food) from some family members about the name Felix before we actully named him and now we're sooo pleased we ignored them, as it really suits him and we've had nothing but lovely comments since.

I'm not looking for alternative suggestions as I've already exhausted every baby name book out there and have discounted similiar names (e.g. Used to have a cat named Cassius and it clashes with our surname; I like the name Jasper but not as much as Caspar; etc)

Sorry this is soo long. Thank you!

Not my cup of tea but they're perfectly fine names for a child

Rightly or wrongly, my instinct is to pronounce Aurelia OrRAYLia

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 16/02/2010 11:29

They're nice. Violet is my favourite.

Think the cartoon connection might well be remarked upon. I would not have though it with Felix, but in conjunction with Caspar it does jump out slightly.

caspar- not good, defo cat name, violet better

diddl · 16/02/2010 11:33

I love them all.

I think OrRAYlia for pronunciation.

I also love Felix.

I always wanted Felix & Oscar-who cares about cats & "The Odd Couple"

MaggieMaeve · 16/02/2010 11:39

You have a Felix don't you? I love that.

Caspar is nice, and goes well with Felix, but may I suggest Victor? I like the combo. Happiness and Victory in the same family!

Felix and Victor! lol sounds so smug

Aurelia is ok, but sounds like orally, or Oh Really? It's nice, but just not fantastic. The sister of a Felix deserves something fabulous.

Violet is lovely, but.... tiny but, I always think of Violent. It bothers me that if you insert just ONE letter, it becomes violent. I know that's splitting hairs and nit-picking though.

I think Juliet has better karma.

Felix and Juliet sound popular, clever and confident.

Not at all keen on Violet. Violet Beauregard from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Violet-Elizabeth Bott from Just William both put me right off it.

Aurelia is lovely - would pronounce Or-ray-lia.

Caspar is fine!

Funnily enough, we loved Oscar too as at the time it was the ONLY boys name we could agree on for DS1, until our friends pipped us to the post and called their baby that! I'm pleased though because I preferred Felix and 'losing' the name Oscar made DH consider it!
