Ds is called Justin
Dd is called Phoebe

I wanted Willow but dp really isn't keen so thats off the list, after going through names with him yesterday he has said he quite likes ...

Anastasia
Kirsten
Harriet
Annabel
Jennifer

out of those I quite like Annabel but dd's middle name is Ann and we call her Phoebe-anna quite often so I am thinking this could cause a little confusion if we were to shorten Annabel iyswim.

Rosie/Rose is what dp's grandparents really want us to call her so that is still in the running but I am still not sure.

So which ones does everyone else like and can you think of any similar???

I like Harriet and Anabela (rather than Annabel) but that might not work with 'Anna' as you say.

Bucharest · 12/02/2010 08:52

They are all quite different to each other....I only really like Harriet....(I like Anastasia, but you need, I think, some kind of Russian background to carry it off well, and most people would slaughter the pronunciation- here in Italy for example it's Anna Starsia which I don't like)

Kirsten always seems very American soap to me....Jennifer I find dull. Annabel is OK. But I love Harriet!

vesela · 12/02/2010 08:53

I like Kirsten and Jennifer.

Like Harriet best out of those - a name that "grows" well with a child - classic, pretty, strong but not too girlie-girl, can be shortened to Hattie, and easy to spell etc but not madly popular (we only know 3 compared to over ten Emilys, Olivias, Charlottes etc).

Harriet Rose would be a beautiful name...

Agree with Christiana that an Isabelle type name would go well - in the same "family" as Annabel but wouldavoid the Anna problem- or youcould go for Isabella? Isabella Rose?

Or what about Rosa?

Agree that Kirsten sounds a bit American though nothing wrong with that.....would probably get shortened to something like Kirsti though....

vesela · 12/02/2010 09:23

I like the shortening to Kirsty.

Kirsten Rose isn't bad - slightly more contrast than Harriet Rose, but still go together.

I don't dislike Harriet, though.

(and I love Justin, btw).

BlueChampagne · 12/02/2010 11:02

I like Justin and Kirsten but an not sure about using thm together. How about a longer version of Rose, like Rosalie or Rosamund?

doodlexyz · 12/02/2010 13:34

I like annabel and Harriet.
DD2 was nearly Harriet, nn Hattie

ClaireyFairy82 · 12/02/2010 13:41

I love the name Kirsten, which I think is a celtic version of the boys name christopher. I also love Rosie and think both age well.

mathanxiety · 12/02/2010 16:06

Love Kirsten and Anastasia.

somanyboyssolittletime · 12/02/2010 16:11

Annabel, Anastasia or Harriet for me!

AllieW · 12/02/2010 16:55

I like Kirsten, but with the pronunciation a family friend had - Keer-sen.

Love Annabel (preferably spelt Annabelle). You could always instigate a shortening of Belle or Bella instead to avoid the Anna problem.

CantSleepWontSleep · 12/02/2010 18:15

Like Harriet, or Kirsty but not Kirsten, which I agree sounds American.

HalcyonDaze · 14/02/2010 09:34

I think Harriet works the best with your other dc's names. Particularly like Hattie as a nn.

Anastasia and Annabel I would immediately discount due to the fact you call your dd Phoebe-Anna. Too confusing.

I think the pp's suggestion of Isabel (as an alternative to Annabel)sits really nicely with the sibset.

Kirsten and Jennifer are far too 80's imo. How about Christabel or Imogen (nn Gen) as alternatives?

jellybeans · 14/02/2010 10:00

Anastasia like it
Kirsten not keen
Harriet dislike, may get 'Harry' (I know 2 who do)
Annabel Love it
Jennifer OK if you like Jenny

choosyfloosy · 14/02/2010 10:06

Harriet Rose is lovely.

Do Rosalind or Rosamond do anything for you?

lowrib · 14/02/2010 10:26

What about Elodie?

diddl · 14/02/2010 10:52

Harriet & Kirsten.

Wolfblass · 14/02/2010 11:55

I love Harriet and my beautiful 16 year old step Daughter is Annabel, she has been Bella or Bel while younger, but is known to her School friends as Anna now

Horton · 14/02/2010 12:22

Harriet is definitely the best, IMO. I don't like Jennifer, Annabel or Kirsten, though Bella is very sweet.

Harriet Rose would be lovely.

TeflonMum · 14/02/2010 17:20

Anastasia is lovely.

I like Harriet, too.

MaggieMaeve · 14/02/2010 22:30

Anastasia is nice but a bit long and flouncy compared to your other names!
Harriet is nice, but it always reminds me that I prefer Juliet
Annabel is lovely
Kirstin is quite spiky-sounding. It's a perfectly OK name though.
Jennifer is ok again. Just dated. I don't dislike all dated names though. Jillian or Linzey or Melanie are all dated names that I like.

imo Annabel or Harriet go best with Phoebe and Justin (nice names btw). Annabel is prettier.

MaggieMaeve · 14/02/2010 22:31

ps Rosemary with Rosie or Romy for short would be lovely, but don't do anything to please the grandparentS I do like Rosemary though. I think it will come back into fashion in about...... 3 years!
