What do you think of Dixie as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

Hmm. To me it's not really a name. Plus it has a lot of baggage in the US.

Fruitbatlings · 08/02/2010 13:44

It's my sister's middle name. Really suits her, I like it as a second name. Not so much as a first

Gailcrone · 08/02/2010 13:45

I'm not from the US. Out of interest what baggage?

Unless you are Southern, it's just weird, isn't it?

momofnearly2 · 08/02/2010 13:48

There's a little girl at Ds's groups called Dixie. She is just beautiful. It really suits her.

I love love love it!

Ziggurat · 08/02/2010 13:52

It has strong connotations with the South, i.e. the Confederate (slave-owning, pre the Civil War) states.

Thanks Ziggurat

There's always Trixie which has the same kind of feel without also making me imagine a showgirl in a spangly stars and stripes hat?

LetThereBeRock · 08/02/2010 16:16

Awful. Too twee and it sounds more like a dog's name.

bluebump · 08/02/2010 16:18

I met a teenage Dixie last week and it actually really suited her.

Blanchet · 08/02/2010 16:22

Also, not sure if I'd like to have the sound "dick" in my name... especially growing up.

I would wonder whether the sibling was called Pixie ...

RollBaubleUnderTree · 08/02/2010 16:46

Anna Ryder Richardson has a daughter called Dixie-Dot.

Does that help?

dizzydixies · 08/02/2010 17:21

love it

Hulababy · 08/02/2010 17:35

I don't like it. It doesn't feel like a real name, more of a nn.

dizzydixies · 08/02/2010 17:36

blanchet - I agree but mainly because I can't get over the popularity of Scarlet which has scar in it

sallyjaygorce · 08/02/2010 17:37

I quite like it but it might be shortened to Dix. She'll need to be quite a character to carry that off.

Jamieandhismagictorch · 08/02/2010 17:41

It strikes me as a nn

theagedparent · 08/02/2010 17:45

I like it.

brimfull · 08/02/2010 17:46

I like it , I know a really sweet Dixie

Bumperlicious · 08/02/2010 17:53

I think I know what is going on here...

sallyjaygorce · 08/02/2010 17:56

Will she be good at whistling?

FatSeal · 09/02/2010 02:03

Our downstairs neighbour's dog is called Dixie, so sorry, that's all I think of!

slowshow · 09/02/2010 15:11

Middle name Chicken?

Seriously though, not good.
