One name DP did mention that didn't make me gag is Otto. I have no idea how it will be perceived though, so please let me know what you think!

love otto, looked after a little boy a few years back and he was absolutly delightful

mebythesea · 07/02/2010 20:09

i like it.

i know two and it's a nice strong and simple name, like jack, there's no messing about... there are quite a few historical otto's who did quite admirable things...

the name otter is growing in popularity too ...

momofnearly2 · 07/02/2010 20:10

Love it! Does your Dp like Arlo? Both are very cool.

I think I put them in the same legue iygwim. Don't know why though.

mebythesea · 07/02/2010 20:12

iygwim? is this a name?

ChickenInABasket · 07/02/2010 20:18

Very cool, I like names ending in "o" - Otto/ Theo/ Milo/ Jago!

momofnearly2 · 07/02/2010 20:20

If You Get What I Mean? iygwim! Sorry it's used on another site I go on, it kinda carried over

mintyfresh · 07/02/2010 20:24

Love it, it's very cool!!

mebythesea · 07/02/2010 20:25

phew! for a min there i thought this naming bisness had really gone over my head!

Wolfblass · 07/02/2010 20:27

Oooh i love it actually , very cool

Heated · 07/02/2010 20:27

Ok, I did think Von Bismarck, but this is a vast improvement on his other suggestions.

Noticed a few Ottos in the Telegraph announcements of late, along with the Arlos and Santos - a grower maybe?

Do still, however, vastly prefer you name choices.

woodyandbuzz · 07/02/2010 20:28

Only Otto I have known is a dog.

crankytwanky · 07/02/2010 20:28

It is a cool name but immediately brings to mind the bus driver in the Simpsons for me. But he too is cool.

PacificDogwood · 07/02/2010 20:30

There is a dodgy German comic who goes by the name, he is a bit past it now , but that association would put me off, sorry!

Oskar?

mathanxiety · 07/02/2010 20:57

Good old German name. I know a Zachary with Otto as mn.

LynetteScavo · 07/02/2010 21:02

I like.

Cute but strong at the same time.

serinBrightside · 07/02/2010 21:06

Gorgeous name.

Remember the Otto in A fish called Wanda?

StillCrazyAfterAllTheseYears · 07/02/2010 21:10

Hmmm. I like Arlo and Theo as names but there's something about Otto that sets my teeth on edge. Maybe it's because I watched A Fish Called Wanda the other night, where Otto is so dim that he thinks the London Underground is a political movement.

But I see I'm in the minority here.

StillCrazyAfterAllTheseYears · 07/02/2010 21:13

Ha! Cross-post with Serin.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 07/02/2010 21:22

I really like Otto, although yesterday we were at a farmers market and a really well spoken ra ra type man said really loudly (like they do) to his toddler 'what type of olive would you like to choose Otto?' and it really cracked me up.

Parmageddon · 07/02/2010 21:28

Lol ILiketoMoveIt! I like it, it's actually my dp's nickname which his friends gave him when he was about 16! He has no idea why but it seems to suit him (he is cuddly with a beard if that helps!!)

Ondine · 07/02/2010 21:29

I really like it; it's cool but not too try hard. The o' ending names seem to be having a mini revival. Milo, Arlo, Theo etc but Otto is definitely the best one.

Merle · 07/02/2010 22:38

It's fine but I would find it a bit odd to use it, unless you already have seven sons. The only Ottos I have ever known have been the eight son of Italian families. Otherwise, it makes no sense to me. If he's your first you should call him Primo.

mummyjackson · 07/02/2010 22:51

Thanks you lot! I do quite like it but I think I might be a bit embarrassed when announcing his name.

Aww what's his name?

Otto

Oooh, lovely (snigger snigger)

Do you think it's ok for non-posh people (I'm not totally common but I'm not a toff!) to use?

Somebody on the due Feb 2010 thread had an Otto last week...I think it's a fab name. I like -o names, particularly Leo and Milo but DP won't entertain them
