What do you think of Marilla as a girl's name? It's listed on Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder.

Anne of Green Gables

MadOldCrone · 04/02/2010 23:32

Tony Christie

MaggieTaSeFuar · 04/02/2010 23:32

it's very close to the spanish word for nausea. that was the first thought i had.

MadOldCrone · 04/02/2010 23:32

Isn't marilla a colour of envelope?

MadOldCrone · 04/02/2010 23:34

....or the capital of the Phillippines?

darkemerald · 04/02/2010 23:34

No, that's Manila

Maybe I'm thinking of a collection of small boats....

MadOldCrone · 04/02/2010 23:36

...or what you flavour fairy cakes with...

BitOfFun · 04/02/2010 23:36

Isn't marea Spanish for nausea? I like Marilla. A lot actually.

MadOldCrone · 04/02/2010 23:38

.....or.....

AleksandrMeerkat · 04/02/2010 23:38

Manilla, and flotilla.

HTH

mollymawk · 04/02/2010 23:38

I think of Anne of Green Gables too. Nice name though.

AleksandrMeerkat · 04/02/2010 23:38

Yeah, and that's vanilla.

Seriously? [hmm}

differentID · 04/02/2010 23:39

Anne of Green Gables. Sorry.

AleksandrMeerkat · 04/02/2010 23:39
Hmm
shockers · 04/02/2010 23:45

Marilla was crotchety but fair ( and old)... Dinah, however, was black haired and beautiful

CJCregg · 04/02/2010 23:48

How about this?

monetinfebruary · 04/02/2010 23:48

I like it. Wasn't it the old lady from Ann of Green Gables?

Pancakeflipper · 04/02/2010 23:48

Marilla the Gorilla.

Nah.... But I have always liked Dinah from reading that series of Enid Blytin books.

darkemerald · 04/02/2010 23:52

The list of things Marilla rhymes with is very helpful, thanks

Is this the way to Amarilla?

LetThereBeRock · 05/02/2010 00:01

I don't like it. It's one of those ugly old lady names imho.

shockers · 05/02/2010 00:13

Am I getting confused with my Dinah's? I remember the one who was a good fairy type from the Faraway Tree but who was Anne's best friend? ( the one she got drunk on raspberry 'cordial'? Was that Diana? hoever it was, I loved her and her black hair as a kid ( I was ginger like Anne and felt her pain and her admiration)
