Bit too posh? I really like it but I am not posh. Other dds have simple slightly hippyish names if thats any help.

It would fit in with hippyish names imo.

GetOrfMoiLand · 03/02/2010 16:55

What's posh about it?

I think it is a modern classic. Good name.

Ondine · 03/02/2010 17:11

It is quite posh but not Ptolemy & Lavinia type of posh, I think anyone could get away with it.

It's really nice.

Besom · 03/02/2010 17:16

I like it because India is my favourite country/sub continent.

hana · 03/02/2010 17:27

isn't it a bit late 80s?

naff

nighbynight · 03/02/2010 17:40

I absolutely love this name, but after the late 80s boom got sort of put off it.

How about Africa, or Afric for a boy?

I love this name too, and it is a real Berber name, Afric was a north african king.

pipinmybelly · 03/02/2010 18:13

i like it, not enough to use it but i do like it

ronx · 03/02/2010 18:26

I think it's a bit common, TBH.

MaggieTaSeFuar · 03/02/2010 18:28

not keen ...... but it's not awful. just nmsaa

SqueezyB · 03/02/2010 18:48

yuk, I have always thought why name your child after a country? Why not call her Belgium?!

Sorry to be blunt, but I just hate the name!

scottishmummy · 03/02/2010 18:59

what about govan if you like place names?

india is poncetastic name favoured by meeja-mummies.really contrived

zozzle · 03/02/2010 19:05

scottishmummy · 03/02/2010 19:12

jo whiley daughter called india.reason enough not to use.perfect example of annoying meeja-mummy

IWillNotNeverEatATomato · 03/02/2010 19:14

Don't know if you care, but a baby in Neighbours is called India at the moment

(sad that I watch Neighbours, I know)

narna · 03/02/2010 19:56

i like it but its a bit common round here .

meoww · 03/02/2010 20:12

Beautiful name!

Also I liked 'gaiia' meaning mother earth if i was gonna have a girl

reup · 03/02/2010 20:15

I really hate it. It seems so colonialist to me.

peakyispreggers · 03/02/2010 20:18

I love it. not posh, beautiful.

allaboutme · 03/02/2010 20:21

Really like it. Love Indiana too

Doozie · 03/02/2010 20:25

It is not posh. It is a good name for a country.

If you like India, why not use an actual Indian name like Indira?

scottishmummy · 03/02/2010 20:37

india to me is posh horsey mums in hunter wellies.trying too hard to be alternative

havoc · 03/02/2010 20:46

I know an India. Her mum would be ridiculously pleased that people think of it as a posh name.

whelk · 03/02/2010 20:48

lol at why not name her Belgium! And good point about it being a bit colonial.
I actually like Jo Whiley

Heeka · 03/02/2010 20:51

Not posh at all...the opposite if anything.

cupofteaplease · 03/02/2010 20:54

I know an India- she is just adorable, and very sweet in her personality. Her parents are in their 40s and of Asian origin- not meeja types or hunter welly wearers in any way.

Hope that gives you another perspective on the name!
